A fair market value for the Interdimental Bigfoots naming rights, logo, and merchandise is at this moment is worth a forth round pick. However if the world is not destroyed at 2:00 Monday afternoon the price could climb as high as a first round pick and if a bidding war occurs with two or more teams. The sky is the limit. |

Since I don’t remember it ever happening before so maybe a rule change is inappropriate.
It did happen this season and it seemed to really hamper his roster. I’m referring to Dat and his very popular IR list. Early in the season Dat lost his franchise player and used his IR designation in him a short time later he traded for a rookie, who looked keeper worthy and lost him too for the season. I understand that the rookie keeper is a luxury and he didn’t have to make room on his roster for him but manipulating rosters in order to improve your likelihood to eventually win a championship is what we are all trying to do. My thought is could there be a second IR for rookies only? |

The state of the running back
I’m not proposing any changes to the rules or altering the scoring system. However the attitude towards running backs in the NFL is definitely being noticed in this league. Is this a permanent alteration to what we have grown accustomed to or is it something that will be cyclical? Either way it is something that we need to consider. This is not a league that jumps off the handle at the first sign of change but we should be prepared for what ever changes come. I would hate for the position to become irrelevant. We have survived the pressures of ppr and superflex but this change in attitude by the league coaches is having real consequences in our league. This is definitely something we need to keep an eye on and if the pendulum does not swing back it would be reminiscent not to respond. |

Forgive me, I'm deflecting.
The Grey cup was a really good game, as Toronto was down two scores in the fourth quarter. They managed with a back up Quarterback to wrestle the trophey out of the hands of the Blue Bombers who have owned the cup for the past two seasons. Really an exciting game! But deflecting helps me cope with other Bull Shit Football Games which I'm unable to deal with now. It's part of our Minnesota passive aggressive behavior. Oh did I mention there was a last minute blocked field goal. Really a great game, I shouldn't have called it a stinker. |

Alt league?
Zach brought up the idea of having a "Machete bracket" in parallel to our real league. Basic rules being teams compete against all remaining teams each with the lowest scoring team being eliminated. All of there players are then dumped back into the free agent pool with all surviving owners able to bid on them. I only bring this up because there seemed to be intrest in this, and time is running short if we are to pull this off this year. |

Draft house

Thanks Billy, first for kickstarting in me the excitment of getting back to Ragnarok. I am pumpped for this years draft. I also am also apprieciative of your hard work in finding these drafthouses. Secondly, I am thanking you for your intrest in comming to MN when I sent you pictures of me drinking your Painkiller, my drink of the summer. (last summer) So I would like to put forward this. Since 1/6 of the league lives in Minnesota, 1/4 if the league was born here, and 1/3 of the owners have visited. Is it time for Eric and I to host the draft? The same rules would apply If you pay to fly to attend the draft, you won't pay for the lodging nor the food. Is there intrest in the other 2/3's ? |

A fundamental change to the OFF
Redrafting each week is a smart way to try to resolve some of the major issues that we will be facing this year as owners. However it is such a huge step from the norm that this would require a majority of the teams to agree to such a radical shift. For those of you that have been in the Drafthouse league here on customizedfootball.com this is something that you have done before. For the rest of us this will take some time to adjust. I hope that some more of the owners chime in on this subject so we can gauge the interest of this avenue. |

Good Ideas keep them coming!
You have some pretty good ideas Brad. I do like your idea of redrafting every week to eliminating the whole covid factor. This would mean a bigger time commitment from the other owners but it may be the easiest way to avoid that issue all together. Along with a free agency on Sunday morning for emergencies. That would mean a whole new concept for the OFF. Franchise players and rookie keepers would be immune from the draft. and rosters would have to be expanded for their bye weeks. I'm not sure how this years rookies could be tied to any owners roster for next year but maybe you have an idea for that. |

Billy is correct when he said Draft Prep is key
I’m going to add another post to this already heavily argued topic. I’m going to use quotes of those who have voiced their opinion and I hope I don’t offend nor take their words out of context.
“What exactly is the problem and why does it need to be fixed? If the problem is that QBs are going later in the draft than other players that score less points than QBs, why is that a problem? I certainly don't see it as being a problem.” QB’s going later in the draft is not the problem, but it is a reflection of a problem that does exist in the scoring system.
“Ragnarok has its own scoring system because traditional scoring systems sucked.” However this scoring system has created a “clusterfuck” at the QB tier 2-3 level. “If it's not worth drafting QBs because they're all the same in our scoring system now, doesn't that kind of suck? Shouldn't we do something about it?” QB’s at this level have a lack of statistical diversity. “Damn right there's a clusterfuck at QB”, “they are basically equal to each other (especially when considering what their average weekly production will be).” What needs to be done is, take that clusterfuck of quarterbacks, separate and define them as to who is better, and appropriately reward those who are better. This can only be done with a modification of the QB scoring system.
The reason it needs to be fixed “Think back to your draft prep this year, was there a huge difference between your QB6 and your QB16?” That statement is the argument. If you cannot define the difference between 6-16 then that is the problem! “Shouldn't we do something about it?” “Draft prep is key to the success of one’s team”, and by doing this it will indeed require more draft prep and scrutiny of the QB position.
I know my proposal of an altered QB scoring system is not a popular one, but I believe that it addresses the key issues raised by those who have argued for and against, and does not require making major changes to how we run the league.

I didn't make my point with that rant
So in the above scenario, an owner needing a qb on Sunday morning. The surest thing you can do in our current system is bid on two starting qbs, but with such tight rosters that means you are dropping two players, both of whom will be someone of quality. |

I also feel the strongest argument made
Has been Keith's point about our very tight roster and having only one opportunity to fill an empty roster spot after Thursday games. For an example; If your team has only one quarterback or one tight end and that player plays on Monday Night, that team is not obligated to post his status until after our Wednesday FA. Then only to have one chance to fill such an important spot such as quarterback! |

Fielding your best team possible
I have no issue with having additional FA sessions added to the league. We should all be wanting the best out of our fellow owners to make this the best fantasy league we can. Why are we putting up roadblocks to hinder ourselves and each other, it makes no sense. The ability to add this is there, why we are not is beyond me. |

A couple thoughts on the QB's
I was just thinking about Sean's argument of quarterback relevancy. Why is it that they have such a late draft position, vs points scored. I agree that the premise of his argument is spot on. Currently they're just not that important. Why is the highest point scorer on our roster, along with the most important player in all of sports is being drafted behind that same teams tight ends. Just typing that seems so ludicrous, If any NFL GM had the choice of a top five quarterback or a top five tight end, they would take the quarterback every time. So why is it, that two thirds of Ragnarok's owners have their tight end secured before they draft their quarterback? Or only four QB's are gone by round six and eight TE's at that same point. I believe Sean's argument is, "QB's are not standing out far enough from their Ragnarok teammates to be scene as a high draft pick worthy position", (correct me if I'm wrong.) Also, earning more points or expanding the position to two starters would create more demand. He is right, it would, but at what expense? If we raise quarterback scores, do we risk it just becoming a quarterback league? They already average twice as many points as a teams best running back. I propose that we could increase the value of elite QB's while not raising their fantasy points. If we adjusted the points scored for passing yards. Eliminating points for 0-299 yards reducing the bonus for average play. For example, if a QB has a poor game and throws for only 150 yards he is still rewarded 4 points for his efforts. Isn't 250-300 yards expected out of a fantasy worthy QB? So why are we giving points for mediocrity? If a quarterback earned no passing yards until 350 yards and then suddenly they had 10 points for hitting that threshold would make consistent and elite quarterbacking a premium and therefor have a higher draft slot. |

It's that time of year again for my annual let make defenses relevant!
I overheard Billy say it last night, Defenses are irrelevant, and I'm pretty sure I also heard somebody say they are a crapshoot.
Thursday night The number one raked D, had a statistical great game. The Bears held the Packers for to 10 points and racked up 5 sacks. The NFL average is 2.5 they doubled that mark, what did they get for their effort? 8 points! big whoop, 8 points does not reflect just how dominate the Bears really played Thursday. What isn't reflected in our scoring system are the overlooked stats but just as important. In base ball terms these are the triples not the homers. These are the other reason the Bears' D ruled. They only surrendered to the Packers a total of 250 total offensive yards. Also they had five passes defended, and nine tackles for loss.
Just sayin' |

I like Stu's proposal
This doesn't have to be as complex as I stated earlier. Most teams are still relevant through week 11, so it's a small window to where this actually applies. If two teams in this situation do agree on the parameters of a trade they must make the trade after MNF and before Tuesday noon. If most trades are like mine they take a few days of negotiations before settling on the final product. This will allow enough time for at least three teams to vote. If by first Kickoff on Thursday either not enough owners vote, or it outright fails, the trade is void. |

I'm kosher with all of the parameters up to
letter h) Using your fine example what happen if for some reason that placekickers start falling in the draft and a better placekicker is available at draft spot 6.1 and Robbie Gould could still be snached up at the same place? Also, Does Sean lose the option to trade away said pick?
letter i) does being too drunk to pick count the same as not honoring the pick
letter j) I'm totally on board with deception! |

That is an interesting idea
Here are my questions. How long do the other 10 teams have to vote, is 24 hours enough? What happens when the trade happens on Saturday night? Do all trade have to be completed between the end of MNF and Wednesday evening? What happens if only 3 out of 10 team vote, do we at least need a quorum? Does this start at the beginning of the year or just as playoffs near?
I do like this idea but the logistics may be an issue. |

What about Marketplace fluctuations?
Under this proposal, teams that are out early probably because they have a lack of blue chip talent on their roster are forbidden from trading with all teams in order to try to get a franchise worthy prospect for the future? I'll share an example. In another league which drafted two weeks before the start of the season I kept Le'veon Bell as my franchise I like the Maulers kept him on my roster all season as the playoff chase came closer and the trading deadline neared I put out a notice to all teams that if their team didn't have a franchise worthy player he was available best offer wins I accepted a second tier WR but better than my #3. I felt this was a win win. The team that won the bid was long out of the playoffs for just that reason, he didn't have a blue chip guy. Now he has a competitive start for next season.
I know where you are going with this rule, but with this set of owners, the veto rule, is this rule really necessary? |

This may be much to do about nothing
Then again maybe not. Since I began writing this blurb, my stance has completely changed. I believe this is a topic that deserves discussion, and discussions are great for the league and bring out innovative ideas.
Since 2007 when Ragnarok switched to the four division format the League Champion has had the best regular season record seven times, division leader 3 times, wild card once.
So I was thinking with most of the championships being won by that years dominate team would it matter if we changed the bracketing? Yes it would!
The only time that I found that the playoff bracket was "skewed" because of a wild card had a better record than a divisional winner that was seeded higher, was in 2007. In this case the Koo had a higher seed because of winning his division and the Blast had the better record, but a lower seed. Also if the playoff bracket had been reconfigured the Koo who eventually won the championship would have been eliminated in the first round, and the Blast would have made it all the way to the championship game but since the Blast didn't play that week he doesn't have a score to compare. |

BS Trade? BS!

I do not see how anyone can feel this is a BS trade. First if you add up the player points; Dalvin Cook 9, Julio Jones 61 total 70, to Nick Chubb 24, Stephon Diggs 52 total 76 after six weeks that's pretty even. Second Cory is getting two fully healthy players. Dave is taking on a player with a hammy. Or are you talking about the trade that the Masterbaiters and Brads Team made back on Sep 1st, now that is questionable. |

To my best recollection he has not been

but if your referring to him starting too many running backs he is subject to rule 8 just as everyone else is. Not being aware of the rules is no excuse for violating them. Usually other owners will give someone a call or a postit. I believe Shaun left a message on the board for Cory, but you can only do so much to help. |

Not sure how to explain it any clearer than how it is written. If you don't like the rules show up to the rules meetings, or as I wrote in the rules meeting notification you can call us with your thoughts prior. Here I'll copy and paste it...
If you can't make it call us with your thoughts before or during the meeting and we will tally you in the vote. Otherwise it will be left up to Eric and I, and I don't want to hear your bitching!

Results of the Big Meeting
First and most important, the draft is going to be at Jeff's house (garage). The address is 823 Woodland,in the ally. Bring your own beverage! We are going to try to make our draft more of a social gathering so bring a dish or appetizer for the group. Please post what you are going to bring on the message board so everyone doesn't bring chips and salsa. There will be a pizza oven, and the grill will be hot, so visit Jeff on Main street if you want to eat meat.
Second, we are expanding the rookie rule to allow rookies picked up in Free Agency. This rule does not start this year, but will be there for next years draft.
Third, We are experimenting on reducing the rosters further to try to make Free Agency more appealing. This year we are going to reduce the Wide Receiver position by one (going from 5 to 4)
Fourth, Free Agency has changed! Since rosters have shrunk and now are more susceptible to injury. After week 13, for the playoffs you may bid for free agents if your player is doubtful, out, or suspended, however it is restricted to position for same position only!
Fifth, Divisions will realigned every year. (so, yes Shaun you won't always be stuck in that brutal division)
Sixth, We are sticking with the +7. We will be redrawing for draft order in 2020 and that means the draft order is set until 2032 folks!
Finally, We are going to take $20 from the prize pool to pay for a Secretary for the draft, (if one is available) in order to help keep the draft moving along. I think one of Jeff's sons is going to be around but if anyone has a better idea post it. |

2018 OFF rules meating
Hi fellas,
The off season has been long and painful and filled with another Vikings playoff loss. Because of which I lost a bet with an arrogant iggles fan. So not only did I loose a two dollar bill I also will have to endure his shit talk when I see him this fall. Back to the topic at hand. We will be having a rules meeting on Wednesday August 1st, 6:30 pm at the Better place. Things we will be discussing are the 2018 draft location, The new draft order, and new rules.
Draft location, We have several great options for this years draft, and we would like to weight the pros and cons off of everybody.
How we choose the draft draft order, This is the last year of the +7 and there has got to be better ideas out there. I would like to hear them.
New rules implementation, Implementation of the rules we voted on last year will be installed, as well as one more our brutal dictator is decreeing upon us.
If you can't make it call us with your thoughts before or during the meeting and we will tally you in the vote. Otherwise it will be left up to Eric and I, and I don't want to hear your bitching! |

Ok, I'm a numbers guy
Well maybe not when it comes to cumulative wins each season, but when it comes to reasoning out a decision I love me some data.
First I want to say, when Sean first brought up this topic I was spit in my thinking of...A) I don't want anything to do with a superflex, though I could live with a second QB position. B) I fully agree with Sean that QB's even though they are normally by far the highest scoring player on our teams, they are being totally undervalued.
So I looked at last years roster and some of the things that we are saying in our arguments are erred. * The best twelve QB are not evenly dispersed through the ownership. We have to go down to #15 before each franchise is represented. * The reason QB's are undervalued is not because they are not scoring enough. The highest scoring QB, Russel Wilson scored one third of his teams total points last year. * The difference in points between #1 and #15 is 98 points in a 13 game season that's 7.5 points per game. Believe it or not that 7.5 points is 11.7% of an average teams score each week. More than enough to change the outcome of many games each season.
So the question remains how do we make QB's more valuable so they are drafted in a realistic spot without over scoring the position. |

I've seen the headline
As far as I'm concerned any team that has had their heart torn out through their tear ducts is deserving of "Most crushing playoff loss" and it doesn't matter if it happens one time or one dozen times, it still hurts. As far as the Bill v Vikes, who hurt runs deeper? Both have seen the promised land and both have fallen short four times. But this year is different it all about winning the Superb Owl. It destiny! don't jinx it. |

Just as Sean is rallying for the relevance of QBs
It reminds me of my battle for making defenses relevant. Even though there has been a modest increase in the defensive scoring system, I feel it is still under valued. Sean is correct in his statements that the Quarterback position has long been called the most important position in all sports. Also in his statistics of QB rankings vs other positions. Data often points out glaring flaws that go on being ignored for...well sometimes lifetimes.
This is going to be a tricky balance as generally QB's receive so many more points than their colleagues in other positions.
I'm going to spitball this idea. Two year ago Keith proposed an augmented defensive scoring system to make the good defenses have real value and poor defenses costly. Maybe we could take the same approach to the QB position. First cutting their score in half then multiplying their score by .66 thereby making the best stand out from the rest, but not making the position so over powered. The value of elite QB's could be augmented further by increasing the multiplier.
Have no fear, in just 7 short years of annually bringing up your point something small could happen. |

And that's fine but it a fundamental overhaul of the Ragnarok scoring system. |

I would like to hear some of the ideas before voting up or down. Does the player need to be on the roster before week 3, 7 or 15? Does a free agent rookie have the same protection of 24 picks as drafted rooks or is it reduced? I guess I'm just asking for a little clarity. |

As much as I appreciate the attempt of you trying to improve my teams name I don't deserve such a truly cool name as Burroughs Dildo. No, I'm sicking with the train wreck of a name of steely-danzig. As awesome of a band that combined the rock-jazz sounds of Steely Dan and the Epic lyrics and bone rocking instrumentals of Danzig. Joining their names together to represent a fantasy team makes no sense, and is as confusing as my management of this squad. |

I spoke with Dat last evening and he is leaving directly after his last class Friday. Considering distance, traffic, and bathroom breaks, that will put him in the North camp at 6:30 pm central. Plenty of time to catch the hour and a half state of the league speech. If Kent could make it to Bismark by 2 pm or Fargo by 4 pm he could catch a ride with Dat to our festivities. I know the two options had been up for a couple of months, but most of the forum discussion had taken place in the last couple of weeks. Despite some new, original, well thought out ideas being brought up in the last few days a vote was pressed forward by both sides. Now we have set our course as to the direction our league will take. Adding more variables to an unknown is asking for chaos. Lets find out the results of our actions before making more. |

There was a realignment before the 2013 season
After the Factor and steely-danzig teams left, the league made new divisions. What were the conditions and the methods used to determine these the current divisions. I ask this because this realignment did not have any real effect on competitiveness. In fact in 2012 the league was slightly more balanced then after the adjustment. Just looking back for the past ten years, since I have been in the league, 2012 is the anomaly. There has always been disparity, and just realigning the divisions didn't solve the issue. |

Just a few notes
Of why I don't like either system.
I don't like the school yard draft system for the following reasons.
1) The worst owners pick the divisions and hence determines the direction of the league. Do we really want the those who have not shown to be as competent in Fantasy Football determine the direction of our league for the next few years. (and I say that as one of those owners who may be doing the picking) Goodness Sake! we should be asking those who are doing well to devise methods to help the rest of the league.
2) If the divisions work out as Keith has theorized has anything really changed? The four most successful owners are still probably going to be in four different divisions and still successful in their new divisions.
*Notes The argument of someone having their feelings getting hurt, I'm not sure has much validity. Also lets get drunk and pick may be the worst argument for anything ever!
Why I don't like weighted system
1) Is it fair? I know I wrote the post about the NFL having a weighted system but should Stu or Sean be punished for being good?
*Note I don't think the timetable argument is relevant.

I think everyone needs put down their torches a pitchforks
The loudest voices of both sides of this argument have seemed to have lost the ability to listen. I know everyone cares about this league and only wants the best for it, but being doggedly determined to having ones own way without giving credence to the other point of view is myopic.
Since this last round of debate has started a few of the members have become so obstinate that they refuse to allow any new information to influence them. Rushing to a vote has that effect. However picking the lesser of two evils should not be counted as support. Only rejection of the other option.
We started having real dialog with credible alternate solutions, and now this dialog is supposed to be shut off? |

For exactly the reason that you are writing these well thought out posts. As I stated earlier I would like to hear some discussion and some well thought ideas and some not so well thought out ideas. I don't believe that most of us can be pigeonholed so squarely in one of two camps. If we vote now we stop all discussion and trench our selves in to defend our vote. I really hope that by Billy's arbitrary deadline of the 20th we could have some meaningful discourse. Personally your idea of changing draft order holds the most merit. |

The Science Headline.
if any one was browsing through the upper headline and was interested enough in the article about the army using expanding foam to treat abdominal wounds. it sure beats the old method of using a tampon to do the same thing. even though it was very effective and quite inexpensive compared to this. it also gave wounded male soldiers the opportunity to tell women that they understand and they too complained about the irritation the last time the had a disposable sanitary product insrted in them. |

There is a bunch of items, ideas and issue being brought up in order to bring more competitiveness to the league. I believe this discussion is exactly what is needed if change is going to happen or if we even want change to happen.
This first step is this, an open forum to spit ball ideas. Discuss the pros and cons of each. Hopefully finding the best resolution to this quandary. Yet, not changing it so much that it completely changes the league.
I do think a vote now is too early. We haven't heard discussion from nearly half of the members. More importantly the possibility of a better solution could reveal itself by more dialogue.
But since we are spit balling how about adding a second Quarterback and Victory points? |

For the NFL to keep its fan base interested year in and out. It has developed a system that that has both kept long standing rivalries relevant as well as equaled the playing field for teams who did not live up to their fans expectations. What is this their formula that keeps millions of fans as well as we 12 coming back year after year with unbridled enthusiasm at the beginning of each new year?
We all know it, and if we look at it it really isn't that different from what Keith is proposing. Instead of realigning each year it just ranks each team within their current division and has them play their extra game against teams of equal rank.
So, what Keith is proposing isn't unprecedented it's just a different tweak on a old familiar rule. |

All of those birds are not going to waist. Three of the top selling new foods being sold at concessions are Pulled pigeon sandwich, Pop corn crow, and Sparrow stew. All of which can be washed down with flavorless tasteless pilsners all made out of state. |
