realignment rankings formula
So far, there are two basic ideas that have been put forth in regards to how we would measure the past two seasons worth of performance.
Formula A: Regular season YTD scores.
Formula B: Regular season YTD scores and also W-L-T record. This approach would also require defining what type of weight we would want to give to the W-L-T element. 30%? 50%? Other %?
If anyone has other ideas or comments upon which formula to use, or another formula idea, please share your thoughts. |

Formula B

With 30% for W-L-T. While YTD points is probably the best measure of strength I would like to see some weight given to W-L records as it is in the real world. |

Rule 21.1b: Peered Divisions Formula
Here is the process used to analyze and compare the two ideas of either using only YTD or using YTD and a W-L-T element. All gathered data comes from the 2015 and 2016 seasons.
Here is YTD Only:
1985 Medical Center 1916 Rattus 1890 Dynasty 1861 Gamblers 1834 Skullsplitters 1720 Bass 1705 Bruins 1659 Rush 1621 Maulers 1607 Mao 1595 Thunder 1591 Blast
In order to also consider W-L-T, a value has to be assigned to each Win and Tie. If we want the W-L-T element to have a 30% weight towards the overall formula, each Win would be worth 40 points. This value of "40" was determined by this methodology:
Average YTD Points = 1748.67 30% of Average = 524.6 Average Wins = 13 Points Per Win (PPW) = 524.6 / 13 = 40.35 -> round it to 40
With a PPW value of 40 (it would be 20 for a Tie), here are the resulting scores:
2625 Medical Center (16) 2610 Dynasty (18) 2541 Gamblers (17) 2516 Rattus (15) 2354 Skullsplitters (13) 2280 Bass (14) 2225 Bruins (13) 2035 Thunder (11) 2031 Blast (11) 2021 Maulers (10) 2019 Rush (9) 1967 Mao (9)
While I initially was a proponent of simply measuring raw horsepower (YTD Only) for the rankings, I think that we logically need to fold in a small consideration for W-L-T because that will reflect the relative success that each team experiences in their peered divisions. If we don't have that consideration, then we may end up with stagnation.
We'll be going with the approach that gives a 30% weight to W-L-T records.

Harumph!

I'm for the PPW system. All this time I thought I was to blame, when it was really the Thunders fault. Harumph, Harumph, I didn't hear a Harumph out of that guy! |

I agree, math is hard.

Sean, Jeremy and I always have so much fun when our draft slots are right next to each other. Using the PPW formula to have all 3 of us in the same division and decide who is the top draft sniper seems appropriate. |

Division name proposal
Ok so it looks like the "Hel" Division is pretty much the group of kids that took shop class in high school and got to leave early as part of "Voc Ed". Can we at least be the "Hel Yea!!" Division? |

Just know...

that all those kids that took shop in high school are now making $50-$75 an hour. Not bad.
It is odd that Valhalla resides in Hel.

I was thinking about the division names.
With the peered divisions, are the teams in the division allowed to change the division name? Or will they have set names? If they are going to have set names, I can easily come up with a few suggestions. |

Any division name changes...

...that result in the termination of Gaping Buttholes is a travesty. |

How about this...

The league champion gets to name the divisions for the next season. |

divisional names and other ideas
i wanted to share my reasonings behind the initial stab at divisional names. they are not written in stone and it was my first attempt to satisfy the following concepts:
* there is a functional consideration now in place * the four names should be related to each other * the four names should have a (at least somewhat) hierarchical relationship * any hierarchical relationship should be understood casually and without a need for Wikipedia
i was looking at all sorts of ideas, including even trying words that simply start with A, B, C, and D. and then i looked at the world tree in Norse mythology and it seemed like it could fit our needs as well as theme.
that being said, i'm all for changing it up to some other set of four names. any ideas?
i don't want to do any kind of so-and-so names such-and-such division, though. i just don't see the payout value and there are some practical benefits to having a cohesive approach this time around.
on a totally different note, i think we should come up with any other meta ideas to layer over the top of the new divisional approach. for example, Eric had mentioned two possible ideas:
* The "A" division would get to pick their seats at the draft. * The "D" division would have to make breakfast for everyone on Saturday morning.
these were just off the cuff remarks he made, but they can kind of serve as examples for the general idea. now's the time to brainstorm and get specific, so if you have any ideas toss 'em out there!

I like Stu's idea

How about we stick to the Norse theme (with perhaps some alterations like "Hel Yea and Assgard?) this season and let the Champ choose the theme next year? |

cuz the last time we had folks naming divisions...
... we ended up with Gaping Buttholes. which i think cheapens the league, no offense intended to Sean. |

Themes are fun, but...

...The top division should be the Paste Division and the bottom division should be the Journey Division. |

Be all logical and obvious and shit. I could get behind the idea of adopting these permanently. I mean yea we are Ragnarok, so duh. |
