    Moving Forward?
It >seems< the vote is in. And I suppose the next question is: On what criteria do we base our Tier System? Are we doing W-L? Over last season? Last three years? Something else?

Also, I ask because the "Pick Your Slot" expires in 14 days. Are we canning that? Do we now vote for a new draft order based on our finishing spot last season?

I know we are still reeling from the realignment discussion, but I thought I'd go ahead turn that rock over.

Happy Father's Day to all of you, and your Dad's too! I'm making my KC ribs tomorrow.

    Too Much Too Fast
I know the two options had been up for a couple of months, but most of the forum discussion had taken place in the last couple of weeks. Despite some new, original, well thought out ideas being brought up in the last few days a vote was pressed forward by both sides. Now we have set our course as to the direction our league will take. Adding more variables to an unknown is asking for chaos. Lets find out the results of our actions before making more.

    Let's jump in.
I would really like to implement Sean's draft realignment this year along with the peered divisions. The peered division is not really that much of a disadvantage for the top teams, only two potentially tougher games each year. And having one of the top picks every year is a huge advantage the way it stands now. With the draft realignment if you have a rough year then at least you know that next year you'll have a better shot at nabbing your next franchise player/rookie keeper with one of the top picks. I'm all for it this year.

    Another wacky idea
While I was clearly in the SY pick camp, I am excited to see how the peer Division system plays out. One thing that concerns me and a few others about it is that awarding a play-off spot automatically to one of the three "bottom" teams can be seen as rewarding failure. I have a simple solution and since it seems that everything is on the table, here goes.

Why not give the six play-off spots to the six teams with the best W-L records regardless of Division. If all three teams of a particular Division qualify, so be it. The only downside is that it makes winning a Division purely an honorific achievement but that is a small price to pay to ensure that making the Play-offs is merit-based.

    What do y'all think?

I second Dave about slowing things down, and here's why:
The Weighted Realignment did not pass by a 6-3-3 margin. It passed 6-5-1--the narrowest of margins, which may include one of the 6 "for" votes being only because the Revised Draft Order wasn't included as an option. That some owners changed their minds over the course of the debate is immaterial--all votes count the same at the end. BUT-if the poll itself was not representative...

Personally, I would pause at implementing any rule--but especially one this major--that had a 6-5-1 vote, and that would include the Schoolyard Draft, Revised Draft Order, etc. if they passed by this margin. That would hardly seem to indicate a gung-ho consensus.

Another reason to pause here? By comparison, the Revised Draft Order has apparently generated unanimous approval and therefore seems like a less polarizing move forward--ESPECIALLY if you believe that the Revised Draft Order DOES have a lot in common with the Weighted Realignment as they both are meant to address competitiveness. I've explained (probably at too much length) why I think this is the case, but I have yet to see an explanation from someone as to WHY they consider the two completely separate issues (only that they DO consider them separate, which isn't the same thing).

That I think this would be a huge mistake is basically irrelevant at this point, as I've stated those reasons to no end in previous posts. However, I DO think the next league poll is an important step, and should be as follows:

"In the spirit of improving overall league competitiveness/parity, do you prefer:"
    A) Weighted Realignment only
    B) Revised Draft Order only
    C) Both
    D) Neither

Here's why: I love the revised draft order idea and think it's a no-brainer, as others have said. However, I would vote AGAINST it if Weighted Realignment is officially happening because I think that, together, it would shift the league focus/emphasis way too far AGAINST the better teams. If they're going to play in tougher divisions each year--and we're going to define the divisions in this way--I think these teams should still have the benefit of the top draft preferences. Implementing both--to me--is far too extreme.

I'm certain others feel this way, but I don't know to what extent, which is why I think the above vote would be fair.

And if some of you think I'm only against this because I've had some success as an owner and am protecting my own interested, let me remind you that the Revised Draft Order was my idea. Hopefully I'm just howling at the moon here though as that's not who I am at all.

    I can get behind that.
Though I don't think it's too much too soon, I can get behind one or the other this year. (But I'm also excited for both). The immediate shake down would be a draft order shakeup this year. And realign based on the stats this year, knowing what's at stake.

I still think we are seasoned as a league that the lowest division won't be a "bad" division, and the division winner from there could still have 6-8 wins. That's not out of line than some past seasons. Ragnarok has always been hard! If you're telling the leauge that it's going to make it overly taxing for the top teams, welcome to the club. I'm kind of an anomaly in that I don't traditionally get into the top six. With the new draft order, I go from 5 to 8. 8-10 is where I usually draft. So I'm essentially not moving from past drafts. But I'm still for a new order.

I know the word chaos has been used. But I believe in my heart that fantasy football is just that. It isn't real. It is its own reality. We have lived in it (most of us) for many years with many changes, and configurations. If we are all under the same umbrella of reality, and we play our games, we're going to all still be competitive, make trades, bid for FA, have close games, win some, lose some, rise and fall, and live in the league of brotherhood.

If everyone want to move to another vote with Sean's four choices, I'll dance. I know what you're saying Sean. I also see Keith's vision. If I got in a division with Keith and Sean, and I still picked 8th, I'd love it, and have the best time trying to soar to My first Championship and green shirt that is Ragnarok!
