Official notice to the league.
We just decided today that Cliff & I are going to pull out of this league. We enjoyed the time we have spent with you guys, but it is time for us to pull back our resonsibilites in the fantasy world. We will drop all our players to be available for the draft this year. That means the Spanish Harlem Incident will have a chance at getting McNabb! Good luck to all of you and thanks again for letting us participate! |

You should have started Tatum Bell over McGahee - maybe you should start thinking your lineup through in the future to maximize your points! Thanks for the ass whipping! |

What is going on with the double kickers?

I've noticed since the trade, that both teams have double kickers on their teams - it's like drunk driving, even when I cover one eye, there is still two kickers . . . double points and everything! |

Rogues say . . .
off with the heads! I don't care whose, but just take their heads off!
No really, I say Cows pay big for trying to draft a coach from someone else's team. Check that, I say the Dutchmen pay big for trying to pull a fast one on the league and keep too many people on their roster. Wait - I say a duel to the death should work just fine. A good blood bath before the season starts sounds good to me!
Seriously, I think I should be able to select one player from each team and call it even!
No really, just give Fox to Scott and let the Dutchmen find another coach - that seems the most logical solution.
Sincerely, The team that won 3rd place the first year, 2nd place the second year, and 1st place the third year! |

Not sure if this is the right place to post this one, but . . .

I had a hard time selecting my players to keep through the website. I knew the deadline was the 15th, but when I tried to make a submittal to keep certain players earlier in the week, it gave me an error. After several attempts, I gave up and then had to go out of town for work - forgot about the deadline until Friday night (after deadline cutoff). Any chance of making some drops to allow participation in the draft? Check that - when is the draft? I may or may not be able to make it, so that may shoot my whole plea in the foot. I understand the unfairness to my request, but all I really wanted to do was cut 3 or 4 people, so if it doesn't work out, I won't kill myself . . . or I could kill myself and put the guilt on the league for not being sensitive to my situation. Anyway, it looks like it's going to be an interesting draft - good luck to everyone this year . . . in case you didn't get the memo, I'm going to win this year, so sorry in advance! Go Rogues! |

Can't wait for training camps to start - have a busy schedule planned to personally meet each player on my team to determine whether they are with the program or want out. May even try to talk to a few of the stud rookies to see who wants to come play for the team to be reckoned with! 3rd place the first year, 2nd place last year, hmmmm . . . who wants some? |

Two quick questions . . .
1) Is the championship game over a two week period? If so, are we allowed any changes to our lineup, or is that set once the games start?
2) I was reading in the rules that ties in the playoffs are resolved by "bench scoring". Is that the case, or do we resolve ties the same way we do during the regular season - total defensive points?
Good luck Cliff! |

No ties . . .
according to the rules, it looks like the Ducks & the Rouges go to total points from defense . . . that gives the Rouges the edge & a tie for first place in the division. What a game . . .
It all comes down to Week 14 . . . got some tight races out there.
Good luck to all. |

One more thing for me . . . tambien . . .
As it states in our rules/by-laws:
"The Core Function: Longterm Gameplay This league was formed in order to allow for strategies to play out over the course of many seasons, as teams can choose to keep as many players on their roster as they'd like. That nuance in the rules has far reaching implications in how we play the hands we're dealt, from evaluating younger talent to making trades involving future draft picks."
. . . this is how I've been basing my decisions from the get-go!

Trading -
While I respect everyone's desire to trade, it tends to be one teams plea to gain an edge over the other by getting more than what they are giving up. Just look at the NFL - how often do you see trades happen? Definetly less than what we have done in our league to this point in the season. As for free agents, I don't think the idea is to pick up a player through free agency and expect him to be an immediate starter or to be an automatic top 10 producer . . . the idea is to see the potential movement of a team to include/develop a player into a future star. I know from my offseason acquisitions (Suggs, Lloyd, T. Jones) my team has become deeper and more improved (except for the move I made to pick up AJ Feeley - ouch!). Just from my trade to get Mason for Jones, I have a weekly starter with a bunch of upside potential. If you will see by my tiny quid total, I seemed to be the only (overly) active aggressor for offseason pick-ups.
Again, I state my case for "No Changes"! Let's keep the vision and see how things go! |

Help me understand . . .
why we would change our rules. I understand keeping everyone competitive, but I thought the purpose of this league was to get the best owners together and create an environment where owner's decisions were the integral part of participation. I've made my moves based on long time production and kept some players who may or may not payoff in the long run. To change the rules again would really mess up my strategy. When I look at the standings, I see two teams who were the dominate teams last year both below .500 - these same two teams made the choice of letting a lot of their players go to improve their position in the draft. While I respect their decision, I'm not clear on how we should change our rules based on that. Jamie made his choice to dump his whole team very early last year - he traded away quality players for draft picks & quid. The Blunts are having a tough year based on injuries and players decisions to burn blunts. I just don't see changing the rules to get everyone a chance at the top of the standings - they need to earn that honor. Of course fantasy football is 90% luck anyway, but 10% takes up 90% of my week (what a loser I am)! If you look at the quid totals, most of the people who have quid left, are teams who need to improve. The idea is to spend your quid to get better - or save it for the future. My stance is to leave things as they are and let a few seasons play out. I understand not everyone was at the draft, but I don't see the draft as that important unless you give up on your team. I am all for adjusting the draft date so it does not interfere with all our other drafts . . . this will make it more of an event. The Rouges have spoken their mind . . . it's time for the scramble to the postseason! |

Free agency & quid
While I understand the concept of bringing Quid value into context, I don't think it is necessary to "compensate" teams who blew their wad. One of the reasons I didn't spend a huge amount of Quid on free agents was to conserve it for future signings. I vote for keeping the current Quid total as is, and reducing the amount to 50 for each season. If you think about it, we all started with the same amount . . . why should we feel sorry for the teams with little or no Quid (Vultures!). However it shakes out . . . I'll go either way.
As for off season free agency . . . I like the idea, but I'd also like to see us reduce our rosters first. If we are going to open things up, then people will have to drop to make room for new acquisitions. Why not reduce everyone by 5 players to make the free agency more interesting. I don't think we need to show our whole hand now, but at least make it where some people can free up some space and possibly help someone else get something they want. Does any of this make sense?
Scott - I remember trading coaches, but I seem to remember a S. Alexander being thrown in . . . j.k. . . . if you want Vermeil, he's yours. I was thinking that David Boston would look good on your roster . . . got any thoughts? |

Need some input on this one . . .
starting on Tuesday of this week, I made several attempts to put a bid on free agent LB David Thornton from Ind. I looked at everyone's roster several times and was unable to locate him. His name was not shown on the free agent list, so I emailed Keith to get him added. By the Wed deadline, he had not been added, and I emailed Keith again to let him know I wanted to place a 4 quid bid to pick him up and drop someone in return. It is now Saturday, and I've got a big hole in my LB spot. If I didn't already lose out on Kasay (thanks Vultures), I probably wouldn't push this issue, but now I'm down two players for this week and I could use that LB. Check the help desk posts to see that I was trying to get my hands on Thornton! Any input on this would be appreciated . . . |

it was a very difficult decision as McNabb was going against the best defense in the NFL and my only other option was Ramsey. I agonized over it for a long time and determined to keep McNabb on the bench until Week 2. I may end up paying for this, but I'm confident that my other players will do a sufficient job scoring enough points to take down the Scandal! And no, I don't want to trade him!!!!! Good luck! |

let the quid roll . . .
this may be a great idea: what about allowing Quid to persist in bank accounts from season to season?
our economic model was based on the original Ragnarok league, with some nifty capitalistic twists. that league, however, resets itself each season, while our dynasty league is all about the longterm strategies that can play out.
it seems that the only reason not to allow Quid to rollover would be to prevent any potential abuse. but what abuse could take place? if the rule obviously states that no future Quid earnings/deposits can be traded, and only actual Quid in bank accounts can be traded, then what harm could occur?
i think that this will actually have tremendous and interesting effects on the role of Quid in our league:
***** -> in the Ragnarok league, since Megabucks do not rollover, everyone spends them by the roster lockdown in week 12. this results in some erratic free agency bidding both at the beginning and end of the season - either get a big gun at the beginning, or at the end spend everything to fill up any roster weaknesses in preparation for the playoff run. by having Quid rollover from season to season, such reckless bidding would be detrimental in the long run. a big free agency bid or trade would be a huge decision to make.
***** -> Quid will actually increase in value as time goes on, due to two reasons. 1) by a natural evolutionary process of free agency spending, and 2) there is power and leverage in having more Quid than any other team, especially during the blind free agency bidding; this will create its own strategies.
***** -> the structure of our league actually awards more Quid as teams rack up Wins, so over time the teams that generate more Quid through Wins will actually see this benefit over time, from season to season (probably just a slight effect, but cool nonetheless).
***** -> in regards to the abuse issue, the Shananigans Rule allows for a natural checks and balances against any bad faith trades. of course, this Rule will never need to be applied, as it also has the unfortunate side effect of killing the team owners involved in such a trade. thank gosh that will never happen.
----------------- So what does everyone think? Are there any potential ways of abuse with allowing Quid to rollover, besides the ever-persistent issue of future bad faith trades (which already is handled)?
Shall we allow Quid to rollover from season to season? |

it looks like Cliff can't leave Charlotte until around 4pm Friday which puts him in town somewhere between 6:30 and 7:00 depending on traffic. If we did the draft at Keith's house in Efland, obviously it would be sooner rather then later. He is bummed he can't leave earlier, but he is starting a new job and isn't sure what the deal is yet. He even mentioned that if it was a problem for everyone he would be willing to drop out of the league if we found someone else to take his spot who would be available earlier. I told him not to worry . . . we would wait for him! |

I liked the idea of a night draft, but understand that it will probably start too late for all to enjoy. If the idea of getting half of the draft in on Friday and half on Sunday is appealling to anyone, I'd be up for that. If we have to do it Sunday, what time would we do it? Don't you have another draft scheduled for Sunday Scott? As for the draft board, that draft kit (draftkit.com) works awesome. You go find your player, pull off the sticker, and put it up on the board. I've purchased a digital timer that will work perfect for timing the picks. I like that 2 min for 1st 11 rounds and 1 min for the rest . . . it gives people who are prepared a hand up on the competition. It also produces some of the funnier parts of the draft. (ie. drafting a player out for the season) Efland is not too far for me on Friday night or Sunday morning. I am anxious to finalize the details so I can enter the data into my FF draft processor! |

My early opinions . . .
Coaches on roster . . . not really interested, but could be persuaded.
Playoff . . . 4 teams is fine with me.
Schedule . . . I am really in favor of 16 weeks. 13 weeks as you described, week 14 is division vs. division 1 - 5, week 15 is playoff, week 16 is championship. if everyone wants 17 weeks, then throw in week 15 as reverse of 14???
Draft day . . . we are still trying to get a date set in our other league. I like the weekday options at 5pm in a private location. I'll say 1st choice Tues 9/2, 2nd choice Wed 9/3, 3rd choice Tues 8/27.
League name . . . need to think about this . . . I like matching old school division names (Jaworski/Csonka) with old school type names . . . GridIron Guru's Empire, American Fantasy League, that kind of thinking. I'll keep working on ideas . . .
Thanks again for including me in the league. I think it is going to be a blast. Already contemplating the #5 pick in the draft . . . does Steve Young still play????
