    2018 Draft Weekend Venue
I know it's still a little early in the offseason and that the healing process from not winning the 2017 Championship may not yet be complete, but it may be worth it to start looking around for potential draft venues for September?

This year I would love to see us finding something $100-$150/night cheaper than what we've been paying in the past (I think we've been doing $350-$450/night)? I'd also be open to finding a place that isn't any sort of tourist-y type of destination, as those places may be even less expensive. We may not get a pool table or a swimming pool, but I think we'll be great as long as it has cable tv and wifi and enough bedrooms and bathrooms. I'm poking around and will post a list of candidates, and if anyone else feels like looking for venues please do so!

I've really enjoyed having a place with a pool. Not all of us have one in our back yard.

No pool but the beach is nice!
Just a thought! Besides it's hard to get good Minnesota beer down there.

    possible venues
Holy f-balls, it's already the middle of March! Places are starting to get booked up, so we may want to lock in our venue as soon as we can. I'm going to start posting links in this thread, and everyone is encouraged to do the same. Stoked!

Most of these are in the $200-$330/night range, but still offer large rooms for the draft and 3+ bathrooms, as well as other amenities (pool table, plenty of room for the Dynasty to hang their banners, etc.). All candidates have WiFi and I think they all have DirecTV.

If people wanted to get all luxurious and upscale it a bit, please feel free to post links to any posh venues!

    My ranking
This is a great group, and I'm sure we can make all of these work.

My preferences lean towards the lakes:

    1) Gaston #2
    2) Kerr
    3) Badin

For the most part, it doesn't matter to me
Just as I reminder, these are the main things I'm looking for.

Enough beds for everyone (sleeps 12 with 6 beds might be a little awkward).
Internet that can handle all of us
    Cable/Satellite TV
A big enough room/space to run the draft

Those are the basics, everything beyond those will help lessen the likelihood that we drive each other crazy.

We really haven't had any problems getting those basics taken care of, with the exception of the cable/internet issues last year.

My top three that we have
    1. Kerr House
    2. Smith Mountain Lake 3
    3. Smith Mountain Lake 2

Norman 1 is only 189 and seems to have what we need though, and it's more than 100 less than the others. We don't need all those bells and whistles, but really don't mind.

Kerr looks great though, and would be my top pick of the ones we have here. Golf course .5 miles away. State parks.

And The Smith Mountain Houses are in a new area for us. If 11 or 12 of us are coming, that really makes the 300-350 range not too bad. They look sweet.

    Great research
    Lots of appealing options.

    I rank them:

    Lake Gaston 2
    Kerr Lake
    Lake Gaston 1

Though they're really 1a, 1b, and 1c--all three look great.

    my whittled list
After looking at these over and over, I keep coming back to these as my top picks. Prices shown are the final price including taxes and fees. All have internet and enough beds so that Sean and Jeremy won't need to share a bed.

    Lake Gaston 1 $1687
This has seven bedrooms and 13 separate beds. 4260 square feet. Pool table, ping pong, and cornhole sets included. Covered and screened outdoor porch (rain won't matter). The only thing it doesn't have is cable/satellite tv, so we'd have to rely on watching football games over the internet.

    Lake Gaston 2 $1405
3300 square feet, with pool table, ping pong, linens, towels, kayaks, pedal boat, and DirecTV. Not rain proof from a porch perspective but that's the only disadvantage I could come up with.

    Smith Mountain Lake 2 $1823
Pool table, kayak, canoe, Dish Network. No linens or towels, not rain proof.

    Kerr Lake $1872
3000 square feet, towels and linens provided, has covered and screened porch. No pool table, ping pong, or cable/satellite tv.

    Comparisons
Both Lake Gaston 1 and 2 are good, but the first one has a screened in porch and a beach for cornhole. That one gets my vote.

    That is true
But no bunk beds. That would mean that all beds would have to be shared in Lake gaston 1. Lake gaston 2 has bunk beds which I prefer. I love all you guys, but you don't want to share a bed with me. Trust me.

    Lake Gaston 1 addendum
The photos didn't show everything that they have described in their Amenities section:

    Bedroom 2 - 1 double , 1 twin/ single , Kids room with a single bunkbed over a full bed
Bedroom 1 - 1 queen , Private bath w/2 person jacuzzi tub, slider to lakeside deck
Bedroom 3 - 1 double , Kids bedroom with lake view
Bedroom 5 - 1 double , Lakeview bedroom with TV
    Bedroom 6 - 1 queen , Lakeview bedroom
Bedroom 7 - 1 double , 1 twin/ single , Kids bedroom w/ single bunkbed over full bed. TV in room.
Bedroom 4 - 1 double , Lakeview bedroom with TV

    I think that's actually 13 separate beds?

as Kent says, math is hard
    4 beds: Bedroom 2 - 1 double , 1 twin/ single , Kids room with a single bunkbed over a full bed
1 bed: Bedroom 1 - 1 queen , Private bath w/2 person jacuzzi tub, slider to lakeside deck
1 bed: Bedroom 3 - 1 double , Kids bedroom with lake view
    1 bed: Bedroom 5 - 1 double , Lakeview bedroom with TV
    1 bed: Bedroom 6 - 1 queen , Lakeview bedroom
4 beds: Bedroom 7 - 1 double , 1 twin/ single , Kids bedroom w/ single bunkbed over full bed. TV in room.
    1 bed: Bedroom 4 - 1 double , Lakeview bedroom with TV
    ======================
    13 beds total?

Plus, I think the Minnesota boys are coming this year!

official nomination is.... Lake Gaston 1
I'm up in D.C. hanging out with Stu this weekend, and we've been talking about the draft venue candidates and have been really digging into the details of each. We both feel that Lake Gaston 1 is the ideal draft venue:

    * regarding the issue of 9 beds (bed math is hard), that is really the only aspect that could be termed a disadvantage but it's not as dire as it sounds. 1) I'm happy to sleep on a couch or share a bed, 2) not all owners will be there all 4 nights, 3) having 7 bedrooms instead of 5 will allow for more restful environments.

    * 1,000 more square feet

    * it DOES have cable (I originally thought it did not)

    * a bigger and better room to draft in

    * jacuzzi

    * covered and screened porch

    * two cornhole sets (Zach doesn't have to fit them in his car)

At this point, it's time for the rubber to meet the road. Does anyone object to this selection? Or love this official selection?

We'd like to lock it in with a reservation ASAP, so now's the time to chime in...

    easy peasy
japenesey. you can be guaranteed to have your own bed (and even room), no problemo. i'm also removing myself from the bed equation because i'm going to be drunk and high as fuck and won't care where i pass out, so that's a statistically meaningful thing.

i think the other benefits of this venue are quite significant. like, really significant. and so as long as Billy gets a well deserved comfortable sleeping arrangement, i think Lake Gaston 1 delivers all of our dreams.

    Draft Weekend dues
yowza, June is already here and in just a couple of weeks we'll be officially picking our Draft Slots! time is a flying by...

we also need to pay for the draft venue sometime in the very near future, and so i'm encouraging everyone to send Stu a hundred bucks towards the up front costs. we can figure out the remaining balances while we're at the lake house.

also, it sounds like the Minnesota Boyz are making the trip down for the draft and will be there on Thursday. i haven't heard from Dat but i'm assuming he'll also be joining us for a full house. for those three guys who are buying a plane ticket to attend, they will not have to pay anything towards the lake house.
