    in fantasy football...
defense is one of 9 positions, not half our team. kicker is only one of nine positions too. the two positions are the often the last starters to be taken, yet they score 25% or more of a fantasy team's points. that seems unreasonable to me. THE MAJORITY OF A FANTASY TEAM'S POINTS SHOULD COME FROM THEIR TOP DRAFT PICKS, AND THEIR SLEEPER PICKS, not from the last-chosen starters, who are often late-round guesses or undrafted pickups. scoring big points from those picks is mostly a function of luck, not skill, which takes away from the skill (well, and a little luck) of drafting the Deuce McAllisters, Hines Wards and Chad Penningtons of the world. the fact that Keith's backup defense could so outshine a Donald Driver-type draft pick is a shame. it took Kent time to find Driver and realize his potential. Keith took the Panthers because he was drunk ;)

there's no doubt that defense wins championships in the NFL, but this isn't the NFL. if it were, half of our points SHOULD come from defense. but if that were the case we should draft one offense and one defense. or draft 7 defensive positions to go with our 7 offensive positions. then it'd be half of the team and would be worthy of half the points. until then, defense just ain't that important in fantasy football. or at least no more important than other positions. it's important, no doubt, and taking a defense in the 7th that you believe will have a Buccaneer-like year is still good drafting (sort of). but it shouldn't be the #1 scorer on your fantasy team.

on to kickers (BUT PLEASE READ ON. THERE'S A NEW SCORING SUGGESTION IN HERE)... Kent and i disagree on how to distinguish great kickers from mediocre kickers. he says 40 yarders are harder than 30 yarders and should be treated as such. i say all kicks below 50 yards are assumed routinely makeable by coaches (how often to teams punt from the 30 yard line?) and as such all 30-49 yd kicks should be scored the same. maybe a compromise would be to introduce missed kicks into our scoring system. good kickers are usually shown to have high accuracy. kickers that get cut miss too many. if you miss a kick, you've deprived points of your team that they must have assumed you should probably get (or else they would have punted), and you've set your team back 7 yards, about the same as a sack. so how about deduction 1 point for all missed kicks? this should separate the great kickers from the mediocre ones, don't you think?

    scoring change.
you said 25%, clearly the kicking game and defense are 25% of a football game, and out of this 25% the kicking game is only about 9% dfense 16%. lets keep it in perspective. the highest a kicker has ever scored since the begining of ragnarok is 22 or 23 points and that was a stellar game. 20 to 25 players a week eclispe the kickers {best ever} so i really feel there scoring chart is fine. and kent is right, there is a huge difference between a kicker that can hit consistant 40 yarders over 30 yarders. teams let 20 and 30 yarders go but they always try to defend a 40 yard feild goal cause of the feild position and the angle of which you need to kick the ball. people who can kick 30 yarders play high school and college 40 and 50 will get you to the league.and to me clearly the defenses values are fine and consistent with the values they have in a actual game. you reffered to the defense as not being half our team then talk about 25% of the points, well if we drafted indvidual defense positions they would be half of our team, and would come up with a lot more than 25% of our points. so just because we draft them as a total team it shouldnt be devalued for what it is. in the begining no one drafted their defense untill way later in the draft 12,13,14 round now you see them getting drefted a lot sooner 8,9, and ill bet this year some go a little earlier than that. i think keeping their value, and as coaches see their value and draft defenses higher and higher will help to keep the draft interesting, so every one isnt drafting the same positions every round, same with kickers. but if a few coaches out there see a inordinate value in kickers or defenses, im sure you will be able to pick up T.B. or david Ackers in the 2nd,3rd.

    scoring change.
if we are all reved up about changing th DF and K scoring, next year we'll be all hyped up about changing somthing else, and on and on...well if you ask me,which i know nobody is,kickers win games for teams in the NFL and ragnarok. so do DF for that matter.i think everybody agrees with this. when kurt warrner was with green bay,do you think they would have let him go if they new the future?no.would have baltimore let priest holmes go?no.can anyone see the future?no. is it my or anyones right to draft a kicker first or last?yes.that is why there is a draft,to test the individual skills of each owner and GM every year.i mean, why can't a defence be sleeper pick?. it happens in the NFL draft and in the ragnarok draft. a 9th rounder is a star in the NFL and that teams GM is a rock star."he can see talent"

my point is and i know you were thinking"when the hell is he getting to the point!"no body can control everything.and that's what this is about.and i my opion, there a'int much wrong withanything now,i can acept a sack could beat me just like i accept home field advantige could beat me.so, do we realy need to change?

    Late weigh in...
I haven't been hooked to the web fer awhile so that's why I haven't posted in a while, or responded to the PK/DF discussion. I see Billy's point that you never know what's gonna happen (I know those blind left hooks out of nowhere STING!). I also understand Jeremy's side. It looks like the changes will be made, and I have no problems. It does appear though that we have got to cement the rules (as our Commish states). It's a brilliant institution and we all love it like our baby. Let's now love it for what it is. WE all know the system well anyway by now and it's no suprise to anyone the dice you roll with kickers and DF's. It shakes up the level of intensity of the draft in a fun way. It's like leving the high-stakes poker table and stolling to the roulette wheel for a smoke. Anyway...

We can't wait to see yall soon and the 1st annual RFF Open sounds like a blast! I've been working on that Azinger chip Keith!

What am I gonna do without Melissa Stark!
    First pre-season MNF next Monday!

    Football.
