  • The Premise

    The Drafthouse league is based on the concept of drafting your starting lineup every week. There are eight (8) teams and we do a live online draft every Wednesday night at 9pm Eastern time. We only draft our starting lineup of eight (8) players and therefore the draft usually takes a mere 45-60 minutes each week.

    In addition, you can prepare a set of rankings for that week and assign it to your draft room if you cannot make the draft. (So far, after two season, we've had 100% participation every week.)

    The buy-in is $40 for the season, and the high scorer each week gets $20. In addition, we do a playoffs in Weeks 15 and 16 and the overall winner gets another $30 and the glory of being the league champion. The winner of the losers playoff bracket also gets $10.

    The positions drafted are 1 QB, 2 RB, 3 WR, 1 TE, and 1 RB/WR/TE.

    Draft Details

    Each week of the regular season, every team will choose their own draft slot. The worst team gets their first pick of which slot they want, and the best team gets the last pick of the draft slots.

    Teams make their selection via their team homepage. Pick Slots are processed at 9pm on Tuesday nights (Eastern time).

    The Season

    Each week, your team faces one other team (determined by the season schedule posted before the season starts), and every owner submits their starting rosters each week.

    The total points earned by the starting players is that fantasy team's final score, and the winning team is determined by who has the highest score between the two teams which faced each other.

    Teams accrue win-loss-tie records through the first 14 weeks of the regular season.

    The playoffs are in Week 15 and Week 16. The league is divided into a winners bracket and a losers bracket, each of which have four teams. All eight teams still participate in the same draft room during the playoff weeks.

    Tie-Breakers

    In the regular season, we have no tie-breakers. For the playoffs, the tiebreaker goes to the higher seed.

    Arthur Andersen rule: Resolving the Season

    One rule shall rule them all: stats.

    All fantasy results are subject to audit and correction up until kickoff of the final week of the regular season. It is essential to defer to the official statistics, even if the NFL changes their official stats at a later time.

    Once the final regular season game kicks off on Sunday, all previous games in the regular season are considered locked and cannot be audited. That way, every team knows *exactly* where they are going into the playoff hunt at the last week of the regular season.

    The final game of the regular season can be audited and corrected up until midnight of Wednesday of that week.

    The Playoffs

    The winners of each division, determined by the overall records within the division (and not the division record), get the first 2 seeds in the playoffs which take place in weeks 15 and 16 of the NFL's regular season. The next two teams get seed #3 and #4, and are selected based on their overall record.

    In case of a tie for determining which teams will make the playoffs, the total points scored throughout the regular season will be used as the first tiebreaker (starters' points for each week, totaled). The second tie-breaker for this situation will be divisional record. The third tie-breaker will be the teams' head-to-head record. The fourth tie-breaker will be a vicious game of Rock-Paper-Scissors, 3 out of 5.

    The four teams that missed the playoffs will face each other in the Loser Playoffs. The same approach for bracket seeding from the winner's bracket will be used for the losers bracket.

    All eight teams participate in the same draft room each week of the playoffs.

    For the playoffs, the slot pick draft order will invert and the top seed gets the first choice of draft slot. This is to reflect and reward the overall efforts of playing an entire regular season.

    Hometown Advantage

    For the playoffs, the home team gets 2 bonus points to start the game with, reflecting their home-field advantage. There is no homefield advantage in the Championship game, however. In the loser playoffs, there is no homefield advantage in the final game.

    Free Agency

    After the draft is completed, Free Agency will become available. Free Agency is handled using team budgets of fantasy currency, and everyone gets a chance to secretly bid their fantasy currency on any free agent.

    All teams begin the season with 100 Beers. If a team suffers a weekly loss, they get a 12 pack deposit. If a team ties, they get a 6 pack deposit.

    Free agency is available to any team for any reason. Previously, it was limited to if a player was listed in an official injury report. That was a cautious approach in our first year of the league, and we can just open it up for general use. It certainly is not an exploit, because the league as a whole has already selected the "best" 64 players for that particular week.

    The only reason free agency exists in Drafthouse is to allow a mechanism to address injury concerns. Because of this, the number of free agency sessions will be a bit restricted so that this does not become a race situation involving whoever has the best twitter or news feed. By only having free agency sessions on Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday morning we are allowing everyone plenty of time to have a life outside of football and still have an equal opportunity to participate in free agency if they wish.

    We'll have Free Agency sessions at the following times each week (Eastern time zone):
    * 8pm Thursday
    * 10am Sunday
    * 12pm Sunday

    Free Agency Details

    At the beginning of the season, each owner will have 100 Beers. When an owner sees a free agent which they wish to acquire, they will submit a secret bid for that player, complete with how many Beers they are willing to spend in order to get that player. The highest bidder gets the player.

    In case of a tie, the order of tiebreakers:
    1) Worse W-L-T record wins the bid
    2) Lower YTD points holder wins the bid
    3) Team that submitted their bid first will get the player.

    Beers can be traded among teams.

    Owners can bid on as many players as they would like, but keep in mind the following important considerations:

    The total number of Beers that can be bid cannot exceed the total amount of Beers held. One cannot bid "20BR on Alfred Pupunu, only if my 40BR on Larry Johnson is unsuccessful."

    For every player that is bid upon, a player has to be designated as being the one that is being cut (this can be done either a 1-to-1 correspondence, or by using an ordered cut list).

    Trading

    All trades are legal but are subject to a vote if one is called for. Note, however, that a vote should only be called for if it is suspected that collusion is in play. If two or more teams are involved in a trade where they both have good faith and believe it is in their own self interest, then we should respect their judgement and decisions.

    Once a player is traded from Team A to Team B, they cannot be traded back from Team B to Team A.

    Teams are also be able to include league currency ("Beers") as part of a trade.
