Ragnarok 2022

Gentlemen, many moons have passed since the start of the past season and another Ragnarok planet is quickly approaching. I'm not sure of everyone’s stances, but I'd like to officially kickoff the mission to launch a rocket to land on planet Ragnarok 25.
As part of the preflight checklist, I think a few things need to be thought about and some calibrations may need to be considered. I love you all and I offer the following clipboards with the best of intentions.
The reason why I care about Ragnarok so much is because ultimately it is not about football. It's about friendship, brotherhood, and the bigger picture. This means that we should aspire to those ideals first, and then only fall to baser instincts if all else fails.
Unfortunately, I believe that our illustrious league forgot some of those principles in the season where we were all so excited to return to Ragnarok after a year off. There were five weeks of infuriation and blame and silence. The pervading sentiment was that there was betrayal and deceit and culpability. There were none of those, my friends, and yet even the passage of time did not seem to show a mellowing of those positions.
There should not have been a witch hunt to try to figure out who brought Covid to the party. It's an impossible task and even a vaccinated person could have been the carrier. That entire effort to cast blame was pointless and poisonous. And it seems that the poison is still in our system.
We need to be better, even under times of high stress. I hope that we can do this. I love every one of you and I am staying in the league because of the bigger picture. I hope that our fundamental philosophies about brotherhood can be rediscovered. I'm going to be here and I hope that everyone will join me in making Ragnarok what we say it is.

| ..for starting off this conversation. You are right, we can be better. I apologize for my negative energy brought to the draft itself and the aftermath. I love each of you and want to continue in the league in whatever shape or form it becomes or if the format stays the same (with the obvious exception of no second QB😁). Let’s keep talking with one another. My friendship with you all is important and I want to maintain it. RAGNAROK FOREVER |

Thanks for ringing the bell. I am still unable to disaggregate the series of events of last year. I know it’s impossible for any of us to say that it’s all water under the bridge. However, like any relationship, there are ups and downs. But some are worth finding the hill out of the valley. I have done that with you all in the past in some form or fashion. And I’ll do it again. And again. As I said in our last Zoom, no matter what the draft/season looks like, you guys are a part of my life that I look forward to, enjoy, and celebrate each fall. And we share way more bonds than the misunderstandings or poor choices that we’ve made. Even if we need to take really small positive incremental steps, let’s move in that forward direction. Not stagnant, or backwards.
Plus, I’m the champ. I wanna play.

The events of recent years have taught me some tough and valuable lessons about what is important in life. I have been guilty of not fully appreciating the love and friendships I've been blessed with. I took for granted that people would always be there, and I will pay the price for that miscalculation forever. I do not ever wish to do so again. I want to be a better person and a better friend.
The friendships we have formed in Ragnarok are beyond precious. We live in a world where it is increasingly easy to isolate oneself and increasingly difficult to form true relationships. I doubt that something like Ragnarok could be replicated and maintained against the reality of life in these fractured times. I intend to embrace this brotherhood as fully as I am able.
That said, it cannot fall to a few to do the brunt of the work in making this a enjoyable endeavor for us all. We need more participation from the ENTIRE League. I understand that many of you have families and stressful careers. So does Keith and he pours hundreds of hours into this year after year. A post here and there, a fun poll or a witty news ticker item makes a big difference. If I can somehow manage to wring marginally interesting Scribbles out of this horribly damaged brain of mine each week I think you guys can cobble together some fun stuff for all to enjoy.
I love you guys so much and I truly treasure most of you. Let's keep Ragnarok alive and thriving! |
