Gentlemen, it is time to reserve the 2019 Ragnarok Draft!
Yes, it's time! Let's pick a venue for our upcoming draft and get it locked in as soon as possible.

I'm starting the process by proposing that we consider Lake Hyco as a destination in 2019. Lake Hyco is about an hour from Chapel Hill and is closer for the mountain folks which of course includes our Ragnarok Champion, the Burnsville Bruins. It may even be possible for Stu to find some sneaky way through Virginia and arrive at Lake Hyco in an efficient way.

Here is one place that has all kinds of amenities for $398 per night:
    Lake Hyco #1.

    Nice place!
I love the privacy aspect. I'll snoop around too. On Spring Break (finally) but can find some time to offer options, but that's a cool house!!

Lake Hyco seems cool to me
I love Lake Gaston and would go there in perpetuity, but if Hyco is a better fit for the group I'm all for it.

    I agree.
I have grown very fond of Lake Gaston, but if Hyco is more convenient then so be it.

    Winston-Salem #1
I'm nixing this one because it is $2546

    Winston-Salem #1. $425/night.

I only counted 7 beds (4 of which were large beds), but there is also at least one couch and I'm willing to take one for the team and forego a bed or bring an inflatable bed.

It has tons of space and a great kitchen and a pool table. We could even play cornhole inside, since that covered patio/kitchen is so huge. It's probably on the pricey side, especially considering only 9 or 10 of us will be there, but I'm throwing it out there as an example of what's available.

I think the Minnesota boyz will be staying up north this year. Dat, did you get residency in NC or will you also be out of state this year?

    Greensboro #1 $2014

This place is a reasonably priced for what it offers. While it is not on a lake, it has 7,000 square feet (!), 8 beds (I'll forego mine), a ping pong table, hot tub, gym, and the comments indicated it even has a sauna. Plenty of outdoor lawn to support croquet. Looks like the covered porch may accommodate cornhole if it's raining.

This one looks really nice and it has 11 beds and a nice house layout. It does not have a pool table or ping pong table, nor any pool/hot tub/sauna, but it has a covered screened porch and offers kayaks for use.

Hyko is cool. I have spent a lot of time there. One thing to consider though is that there is a coal power plant on the lake and the water is quite warm most of the year.( lake isn’t that big)also, not a lot of stores for provisions if not near the Roxboro side of the lake. I am fine where we land as long as I have a bed to sleep on as my back is not very good these days.

    Pinehurst #1
    Pinehurst #1 $1707
This one looks amazing except for the small amount of bedrooms and beds. It only has 5 queen size beds, so I would bring my inflatable bed and a couple of other people would either need to do the same or bunk up together.

The house makes up for it by being completely modern and ritzy. It has a pool table, cable TV, and a HOME THEATER which would be amazing for watching football on. And showing our draft board on. And playing PS4 games on. It also has a screened in porch, in case of rain.

It's located literally next to the Pinehurst #3 golf course, so it might be entertaining to watch people playing golf and hitting or missing their shots.

The home theater idea is winning me over!

This one has a hot tub and fire pit. It has a game room that includes a full size air hockey table, a pool table, a two person basketball game, and a bar.

There are flat screen tv's all over the house, and there is DirecTV which includes the NFL Sunday ticket.

It only has six beds, so I would bring my inflatable bed and a couple of other people would need to do the same or bunk up together.

    Top choices
#1 I also really like the Pinehurst Site. The 16' home theatre is the bomb. Beds are a down size, but personally, I can flex with that. It looks cleaner and there are lots of things going on in and around Pinehurst. Some good brews there too.

#2 Taylorsville looks great! Only thing that may be a considering point is that it looks like the only TV is the one in the basement. That seems klunky with the great space upstairs. Could be wrong about that...

#3 Hyco still seems cool. But Billy makes strong points. Being too far out can be a total pain in the ass. And if the water seems... questionable... I would skip the swim anyway.

The others are just fine, and most do offer better sleeping arrangements than Pinehurst. The Winston House looks flipping amazing but the reviews were hot and cold. Typically we don't do some of the extra stuff (ping pong, pool...) We do like to swim, but mainly eat and drink, play cornhole, Draft, and watch college and NFL football. The Pinehurst site rates are reasonanble. And we would have a kicking draft board on the home theatre screen. Supermarket just a few minutes away. I wouldn't miss swimming too much.

Interested in hearing your thoughts when you get a chance.

let's get it on like Donkey Kong
I would really like to make a decision on this within the next week, so please take some time to look into the venues and offer your thoughts.

If anyone would like to find additional venues for consideration, please feel free to do so and post links in this thread. I only looked at AirBnb when I came up with this first list of options.

Let's aim to make a final decision by Sunday, May 5th? We do need to get this locked in as soon as we can. Thanks dudes!

I would like to officially reserve our venue
I would love to book our venue in the next day or so, but I'd like to make sure that everyone has had an opportunity to look at the options and offer their thoughts. That being said, I can't make everyone do it and we are running out of time, and so eventually a decision will have to be made even if everyone doesn't chime in.

I'd like to officially propose that we do it in Taylorsville. Here are my reasons:

    * It's a fairly central location for everyone who lives in North Carolina
    * For non-Minnesota years, this is the time to not worry about airport proximity
    * It's got a massive draft room (we can move the tv if we want to)
    * It's got a massive porch, including a huge covered area for cornhole if it rains
    * Plenty of beds
    * Six people will have their own cabins (are you freakin' kidding me?)
    * Big lawn for croquet
    * Big kitchen
    * Zipline
    * Looks to be in impeccable condition
    * Give Joe and Zach a turn where they are not driving for 6+ hours each way
    * IT IS $500-800 CHEAPER THAN EVERY OTHER VENUE!

This last point is a big one, gents! The total cost is $1500, whereas the other locations are $2000+.

Unless someone objects or has some other ideas, I would like to book this place.

sorry for not chiming in sooner
I just spent a weekend on Hyco Lake--it's nice, but absolutely in the middle of nowhere. If we need a grocery store run, the nearest one could be up to 30 minutes away, depending on the house location.

I have an air mattress that I can bring if we like everything about a certain house except it doesn't seem to have enough beds.

Like Jeremy said, any of these options are pretty convenient for those of us in central NC compared to everyone else, so if any of these locations offer shorter travel times for others, I'm all for those as well.

    Not to complicate
I'd be fine with Pinehurst or Lake Norman. If this is the year in the rotation without the MN boys (you'll be missed!) and proximity to airports isn't as important, what if we also went out toward the mountains this year? That would throw a bone to Joe and Zach who've consistently had the longer drive. And the mountains are effin' sweet. Per night pricing ranging from $220-$330.

    Mountain #1 $2105
    Mountain #2 $2088
    Mountain #3 $1830
    Mountain #4 $2010
    Mountain #5 bad link?
    Mountain #6 $2025

Also totally fine by me if we stick with Central NC.

I say this every year, so I'll say it again this year. It doesn't matter to me where we end up. It's nice to have a shorter drive, but driving out to Lake Norman or the mountains isn't a deal breaker for me.

I haven't looked at any of the options Sean just posted, but of the other ones Camp Run A Muk stood out to me.

I had a day long audition for my Honors Theatre next year. 12-9, so I'm just seeing new posts.

If y'all wanna come to the mountains again, giddy up! All of Sean's look cool! I like:

    Mountain #3

And actually looking back over Camp Run A Muk... it's fugly, but is wicked close to 40, and a nice lake. Close to all resources. I pass that lake quite often with Lucy's soccer. Granite Falls is very close and has a cool brewery with great Pizza/food.

And I still like Pinehurst, too. Giant TV...

I know that doesn't narrow anything down. I'm happy when we are all together. Beech and Sugar is beautiful country, boys!

    MVP.

I only see 7 beds plus a sofa bed in the pictures, but I think we've had enough people offer to sleep on couches and floor/air mattresses that this shouldn't be an issue.

If you scroll down to the bottom of the amenities, you'll see that there is no hair dryer included. This was almost a deal breaker for me. I'm willing to overlook it for that game room.
