how do we want to do Free Agency in this league?

We'll be using a funds-based approach to free agency, and not be doing either first-come-first serve nor a waiver wire approach.
This means that each week everyone can secretly bid their virtual team budget on any free agents. The highest bid wins the free agent. We all start with $100 to start the season.
1) The big decision to make is this: Is the winning bid equal to the second place bid + 1, or is the winning bid literally the amount that was put forth?
For example, if someone bid $41 on Bob Dobbs and the second highest bid was for $26, what is the value of the winning bid? Is it $41, or is it $27?
I've played in both approaches, and I kind of like the hardcore approach where you pay what you bid. So even if the no one else bid on Bob Dobbs in the above example, then they still pay the full $41. I've found that the other +1 method results in not having to really value your budget very much.
That being said, we can go with whatever the majority wishes.
2) The secondary decision to make is this: Should teams get a $10 deposit each time they suffer a loss during the regular season? We've done that in other leagues in order to help increase competitiveness.
3) What do we want to call our league currency?

I like the hardcore approach too. Much more strategic skill involved.
How would the $10 losing funds be applied? Into the championship pot? Or to the winner?
I am not very creative but how about Franchise Tags.....
I wont be offended if I hear crickets haha

that's only for the team *virtual* bank balance, and doesn't involve real world money or prizes. for example, we all start with $100 virtual funds for the season's free agency. after Week 1, six teams will have lost (assuming there are no ties) and those six teams would have a bank balance of $110. after Week 2, the six teams that lose that week would also get $10 added to their virtual bank account, and this would happen every week.
for better or for worse, it's basically a mild mechanism to try to give the losing teams a little more competitive juice. we don't have to do it, but we could if we wanted to... |

it's Official: we are going with Ebay style Free Agency
|
|

since it was a 50/50 split for those who voted, we'll defer to the more friendly system for Free Agency. we can always revisit it for 2018.
don't forget, FA starts Wednesday night! |
