Looks like we have our first great debate of the season....

The Warrior Monks have requested mercy and want to change their franchise player from Joe Horn to Kevan Barlow. Joe Horn thinks that Joe Horn is the best and the Monks are being stupid, but nonetheless the request was made.

Obviously, if this was a returning owner, or an owner that took over their team on June 15 (like it is supposed to be scheduled), then the immediate response would be "get the fuck out and don''t let the door hit your ass." This is being tabled for discussion, though, because this request is 1) from a nOob, and 2) the original decision was made right away, without much time for reflection.

On the flip side, 3 weeks have passed since the original decision, including 10+ days of training camps.

    Thoughts, everyone?

    Waffle??
Several other teams did not declare their franchise players until weeks after the deadline. When I was handed this team, I was told to have someone pick as my franchise player within a few days and that was next to impossible considering I had nothing but crap and had to sift through their crappy scouting reports and projections. Given that all the non-"noobs" more-or-less hand picked their franchise player and I couldn't puts me at a serious disadvantage. This only seems fair to at least let me make this switch.

    I'm horn. I mean, torn.
Well, each year we deal with with a pre-season franchise issue in some horn, I mean form or another. We may still see one go down (knock-knock). In this case no one involved is injured. If the Monks REALLY want Barlow, I would bet they could have Horn (FP) and still be able to pick up Barlow in the first few rounds. If they just want to bump up a more valuable FP, I'm not seeing a huge difference (in my humble opinion, Horn may be a better choice...but I haven't been looking at SF much). So I might reluctantly say, go ahead and let him switch, but more than the switch, I'm concerned about opening the floodgates to bending the rules, which I know how we all feel. Personal feelings aside, I'd say the Monks are not at a disadvantage with Horn than Barlow.

this issue only exists because I dropped the ball
we have a timetable set up, and June 15 is a deadline for declaring participation for the upcoming season. I didn't get answers from Ron and Alison until mid-July, and thus this scenario ensued. I don't think we'll be opening up any floodgates if I wasn't a slacker and just followed the damn schedule, dammit.

    Switch
The only thing that I am concerned with is that I was never given enough time to research the players on the team I inherited before I had to declare a Franchise Player. I wanted more time -- or at least the same amount of time that a normal team would get. I just don't want to spend this much money and go in with too big of a disadvantage 'cause I got stuck with team full of shit and had no control over it.

    Yo Bitch, you crazy?
Joe Horn is clearly the best WR, no check that - Joe Horn is the best player of all time, and Joe Horn thinks you better get your head outta your ass and stop thinking about some punkass bitch RB who can't even spell his own name right. Joe Horn says don't make Joe Horn call you out, dawg!

    joe horn is the best.
joe horn knows it, the monks know it and you know it. this "newbee" owner after all participated in MIDGARD last year and should not be treated as a compleate newbee. ignorence is bliss and if you want to pony up money to be a part of something, ya damn well better do a little research into what you are paying up for.three days is plenty of time to make that decision with the team he inherited. it''s not like he had to pick between McNabb,j.lewis and randy moss. any questions he might of had could be directly answered in the rules section of this site. there are no take-backs in life or football, only in riged elections and this a''int no riged election.

Okay, I'll weigh in on this one...
Although I am not adverse to allowing the switch per se, I want better reasons stated than what I am hearing. Inheriting a bad team is not enough, nor is "not enough time to review scouting reports". First off, I inherited such a lousy team I had to choose Kerry Collins as my FP! "Nuff Said??!!!!!! As for the other arguement, I remember a post made that stated the 49ers would have such a crappy o-line that the individual picked Joe Horn instead. That says to me somebody WAS watching, WAS thinking, and HAD looked at the info available (interpretation notwithstanding). Unless I hear a better reason, I am against this particular case being allowed to switch.

    It's no biggie to me......
Man, I'm cool with Horn and don't mind having him as my FP -- at all! And, as for the O-line remark, anybody with an IQ above a rhesus monkey's knows that they're going to suck hard this year -- don't need to scout that, all you need to have is just a heartbeat. Anyway, inheriting teams and having to choose a FP from them is kind of lame. It unbalances things in such a way as to cripple the first-year player, not to mention draft position. It's possible for some of the older players (one team has 2 FP's) to have 3! top picks before we even have a chance to pick one -- not including the fluffer FP we already have. If you felt the same when you inherited Collins -- and I imagine your team had to suck way worse than mine to have to declare him as your FP-- then you understand my frustration. If not, oh well, it's no biggie. I really don't give a shit either way. I just pitched the idea to Keith and that's it.

I'm with the Bashers on this one.
I inherited a team so horrible I still have nightmares. Then I traded at the end of that first season to at least have a decent FP the next year. That player I traded for was Barry Sanders, who promptly retired. No love coming from this corner. Man up. Yer a Bengals fan, you should be used to taking a thick one up the keester, dude.

No sympathy from the Dynasty at this point either
At least you had two decent franchise players to choose from! I'm pretty sure I'm the only owner in a fantasy football keeper league that's had to declare freakin' Laverneus Coles as his franchise player....
