Yes, it's that time of year again
Defense wins championships!? In the real life yes, in Ragnarok not so much. Once again you are about to read my rant about how defenses are under valued in our league. I write this again, because once again no NFL defense averaged scoring points in Ragnarok. The top defense in the NFL this year averaged 18.2 points against. That is a whopping 0 points for the owner of that defense. The last time a NFL team averaged points in Ragnarok scoring system was six years ago when the Steelers averaged 14.1 points and earned their owner 1 point per week on average.

The NFL has changed in the last 20 years since Ragnaroks inception and we all have watched as the passing game has evolved, 5,000 yard passing seasons, rules to protect quarterbacks and receivers, and equipment that has transformed the game most specifically gel gloves. These are realizations that were never conceived when our scoring system was materialized.

I'm not asking for a total transformation of the defensive point scale, but an update that reflects the time that we are living in. Not only will this add points to deserving teams weekly, but it will transform drafting strategies to the effect of defenses being drafted in higher rounds instead of the afterthought that they currently are.

I do have ideas for some changes, but I do not want to include them here as to foster ideas from the rest of the league. I also understand that changes happen slowly especially after thing go to committee. I hope to have a consensus on a single updated rule by spring, and a league vote up or down by mid summer. Thanks

No beers were injured during the making of this rant.

welcome to 2015 2016, Marty McFly.
excellent point regarding the overall offensive output now vs when we started this league at the time when dinosaurs and baby jesuses roamed the earth.

i think that the most exceptional and valuable of all measurements in regards to defenses is Points Held. and i agree with the mad deer hunter from the north and think we should expand the Points Held grid out to 18 points. maybe 19. and leave the other scoring elements as draconian as they are.

i also propose that we penalize defenses for high Points Against. for example, if a defense allows 30 points, they get -1 points for that feat. and it could expand from there to a slight degree, say a max of -4 points for 40 points allowed. as they say, live by the sword and die by the sword.

i think this duality approach will not only increase the scoring output of the better true defenses, but it will also make the really shitty defenses be akin to holding kryptonite. which at the very least will make defenses more interesting.

    Green Money Matters
Has the NFL and the 32 billionaire owners club been handing out punishments to cities, and fans that threaten their clean, non-confrontational version of America?

1992 Los Angeles experienced a civil unrest that that the United States hadn't experienced since the 1960s marches in Georgia, Mississippi, and Washington DC. except this time it no longer took the form of peaceful protest of sit Ins, bus boycotts and marches. This time the LA riots escalated in deaths, and hundreds of millions of dollars in destruction and lost business. Two years later the LA Rams announce that they were leaving for St Louis.

2014 Ferguson, MS. a suburb of St. Louis. Riots break out after a shooting of Michael Brown, and the Black Lives matter movement found its rallying cry and once again civil unrest finds its notch in a new era, and again hundreds of millions of damages. Again two years later the NFL allows it team the Rams to find a new local.

Economics has been the reasoning that all of the owners of the past decade have used to justify their desire to up and jump cities. But could the same team be profitable after building a new stadium in the same city rather than moving to a new city and tearing the heart out of the fan base. Cleveland and Houston moved only to expand back there after building a new stadiums. Minnesota team threatened to leave, now after building a new stadium they are ranked as one of the highest priced franchises. Could a new stadium be the answer in St. Louis? Maybe in 30 more years we will find out.

I realize that two is too small of a segment size to draw any real conclusions from, but it does draw an interesting comparison.
