    Rules Proposal 17.4: QB Nudge
It is a good thing that we take a fairly conservative approach with making any changes to the scoring system. The adjustments made last season were all in the right direction and were fairly mild (which is a good thing). That being said, the DF/ST was forgotten (see Proposal 17.1) and the QB scoring versus the rest of the positions is still a little out of kilter.

To see what I mean, take a look at both season and per-game scoring of Ragnarok QB's and compare those with QB scores from standard yardage systems. This was a bit of a surprise to me, as obvious as it seems in retrospect. Anyways, there is only a very slight difference between our QB's and the rest of the world - while at the same time, all the other positions have been smashed with the nerf hammer. Which is great, btw. The rest of the positions, that is.

Thinking back to the 90's when this all began, Gustafson and I deliberately and naively designed a scoring system that had a few odd ideas woven into it. One of those ideas was, "1 QB = 2 RB = 3 WR". Basically, we had this silly notion that the sum scores for the starters at each position should be comparable. Which in retrospect seems kind of stupid because the result is that obviously the QB's will be waaay more powerful than a stud RB (which then affects overall balance, draft strategies, keepers, etc). Then again, there is also a certain truthiness to this approach, because obviously in the real world a team wants an elite QB more than an elite WR.

For us, though, it boils down to this: QB's rack up the points using essentially standard scoring, while the rest of the positions are subject to the awesome Ragnarok nerf hammer. Ten QB's had 200+ in 2012 (with a 266 as the top score), while only one RB had a score over 176 (AP had 192). The best WR score was 142 and only 3 WR's had scores over 125 (wow).

What I am proposing is that we conservatively whack the QB scoring with our Ragnarok (tm) nerf hammer to make it philosophically more in tune with the rest of the scoring system.

Rules Proposal 17.4: That we make very slight tweaks to the yardage which would on the average result in 1-2 less points per game for QB's.
