    Auction 2012 Budget
Is the budget 400 CP as per the Rulebook?

    or

Is the budget 300 CP as per the balances in the Auction Room?

It looks like 300 got allocated to the auction and 100 is in each person's CP balance. Maybe that means there will be 100 CP per person left over after the auction for each person (not including any CP not spent during the auction)?

yep, we did have 400CP not 300CP
thanks for pointing that out and i verified that in the db. everyone's auction bank balances have been adjusted up to 400CP.

also, note that after your team has signed all 19 players and is finished with the auction, all of your remaining Copper Pieces will be deposited into your team bank along with the 100 CP deposit already sitting there on your team page. Basically, you'll get 100CP for the regular season and you get to add your auction leftovers to that.

    Uf Da, What a Pickle
There's been a small amount of feedback about the 2012 Midgard Auction and I'd like to just address them here on the forum rather than clutter up the Auction room's chat. The concerns basically come down to the 300CP/400CP edit and the fact that in the middle of the night Hal9000 went berserk and signed all the players, resulting in the room being reset and all of the players having their clocks extended for another four hours.

I apologize for both of these events and obviously wish that neither had occurred. This is the first (?) significant bump in the road that we've experienced since converting to the super sweet slow auction format, and unfortunately it is a situation where any decision is going to displease somebody.

First, let me start with the 300/400 deal. That's just a simple matter of me running around at lightspeed these days and not remembering that we've historically used a 400CP budget even though the site defaulted to 300. Thanks to the astute observations of the Wolverines and Anchorman (stay sassy, Anchorman), this was rectified at 3pm on Day 1 when another 100CP was deposited into everyone's auction bank. I kind of feel that this event is really not very significant, and even then it's only significance in my book is that we have more fun buying shit. And in any case, nobody complained when it happened and so I don't think this is a point of contention or is any justification for restarting the auction.

Now onto the shit sandwich. When the open auction blocks were reinstated this morning, in an effort to be fair four hours were added onto their previously established deadline with the intent of making it where the players were at least actually available for a 24 hour timeframe - even if the 24 hours of availability was non-consecutive.

One owner says that he should have had the opportunity to bid on Jordy Nelson and Brandon Marshall between 2-5am today, and because of that all players in the auction should be put back on the block and have fresh and full 24 hour clocks put on them. Another owners says let's just start over. Another owner says we need to leave it as is, but is upset because their player should have been gone by a certain time and instead everyone had another four hours of opportunity to get him. And a couple of other owners say that it needs to stay as is because we've already showed our hands.

So at this point we are at a juncture that is not as straightforward as it may seem. My opinion is that the doing any sort of full or partial reset is far more damaging than simply moving forward. All players were available online for
24 hours, even if it was not a consecutive 24 hours in a row, so in a way that is the bottom line. The increase to 400CP within 15 hours of starting the auction did not have any adverse effect. Lastly, it is a HUGE deal that we have all shown our mathematical level of interest in all of these involved players, and we must consider that when factoring in a proper response.

All this being said, my conclusion is to just move forward and carry on. If a majority of the league wants us to start over, please post here and do it now because if a change were to be made it has to be immediate. Personally, I think the consequences of starting over are far more damaging that simply moving forward.

    Let it Be
only a small window was disturbed, if anyone wanted to bid, they had the opportunity to do for quite some time. I don't think a 1-4am window had much of an adverse effect.

It did have advice effect for me. I was the only one up at 2:00.

Here is a blow by blow of what happened:

    1. I looged on around 2:00AM
    2. Showed that I had Signed Eli Manning for 68cp.
    3. I had Budgeted 80 for Eli so I had extra points.
    4. I used those extra points on Welker.
    5. Was bud up to 91 for Welker by Turds.
    6. Logged back in and saw that Eli was back in pool, thus messing up all my biding on Welker.
    7. Discussed issue with Keith and came to solution: Reset Welker Bid to 80, thus giving Turds the Player at 81 (even though his top bid was 90)
    8. Using old Budget, made other bids.
    9. Welker reset back to 91 after complants in discussion board.
10 Now stuck with 200cp for 3 WRs.

None of the bids I made were made with accure info. If all these bids go thru my is screwed and there will be no reason for me to play this season.

All I know is none of this was caused by me, but I now look like an ass and my team is screwed.

this is getting out of hand
i'm going to say a few things here and then hopefully we can move on. hours have been spent on it already, the damage is nowhere near as severe as what is being reported, any attempts to change anything just makes it worse, and despite all of the bitching and whining i hear very little individual culpability. what am i talking about?

anyone who was online at 2am would have seen Bennett signed, immediately followed by all 12 players having their clocks accelerated and seeing the remaining 11 players be signed within 10 minutes. so for the Wolverines, i wonder how there can be such intense appeal to nullify a bid that was made moments after you just watched Eli get obviously wrongly signed hours before he was supposed to. I didn't hear one complaint about that erroneous signing. it was known that he wasn't supposed to be signed at 2am, but he was and you then moved forward on Welker. so to some extent, there is some culpability there as well.

all of this bruhaha ignores the ripple effect that EVERYONE is experiencing at every moment of the auction. every bid made by any person has an effect, regardless of the reasoning or timing that went into it. Wolverines, why don't we undo your 80CP bid on McFadden, too, since you did it under a different pretext? how many bid "pokes" were done by you to other teams today, and why aren't those a concern and mentioned in your wish list of things to undo? apparently, those can stay in place. no problem, i'll eat that 15CP you put on McFadden and just deal with it over the rest of the auction. or simply assume that another team would recognize his greatness and have made the same bid. whatever. let's just move on with it.

this happened early this morning and no one complained about until tonight. that seems a little late.

i have a hard time subscribing to the idea that anyone can so tightly perform an auction budget that there is no leeway of a mere 3% when projecting one's costs. with a total budget of 400CP, 11CP is less than 3% and there is no way of anticipating the actual valuations once bidding starts. the entire art of the auction is about rolling with change, so if you think your team was screwed by 3%, then maybe i need to start taking some seminars.

none of this supercedes the idea that we've been showing our poker hands and if we go back on that then the repercussions are far, far worse.

so that's it. i've spent my entire evening dealing with it and there's not much else to say. i'm bummed that this happened but i'm hopeful that it'll all work out in the end. heck, it could turn out where the Wolverine's three WR's are the three horsemen of the apocalypse every sunday, laying waste to all who oppose them. it's just way, way too early in both the auction and the season to be certain about anything.

F me, is it Day 3 yet?

    I am out
    Nice Keith.

I sent you emails as soon I knew there was an issue which was at 1:37PM. Did not hear from you until 7:08PM. That is 5 and half hours and lot of bidding. I waited until you and resolved it on the phone before I bid on anyone else, including your McFadden, check the times. I tried to do it with as little trouble as possible. You agree, and then flip on me further screwing with my Auction.

You know me, Keith. And You know I am not hothead. We have had business dealings that meant whole lot more that this Fantasy crap and I treated you with respect as a colleague and a friend. Now you throw me under the bus with a post like that above. I don’t need that in my life. I am out. I want my money refunded and you won’t be getting the dues from Shawn either.

My leaving has nothing to with the 12 points or the crash (shit happens with computers I understand that); it is how one friend should treat another. That post is disrespectful and I don’t tolerate that.

    seems like a disproportionate response
especially considering that you don't even own the Welker bid anymore.

none of this is personal, but you've brought friendship and the issue of character into the discussion both here in the forum and in the auction room chat. it's not personal, that's all i can say. i know that you are an upstanding guy and that's never been in question.

it is unfortunate that now you are taking it to the next level and not only quitting, but you are speaking for Shawn as well and saying he's quitting too.

well, i'm not going to stop you and i'm not going to be held hostage to threats or blackmail. if you want out, fine. if you want in, fine. you have until 1pm eastern time to decide.

    It is personal to me
This has nothing to do with some crash, CP budgets or fantasy football. When I was being denigrated on the chat room for defending myself, I asked repeatedly for my friend, Keith, to defend me (I did not need you to judge in my favor, but I did need you tell the others the type of person I am). I even sent you an email asking for that.

What did I get from you? You basically called me a liar and someone trying to game the system. If that is your view of me after all the years on knowing me and dealing with me on business, then you are not the person I thought you were and are undeserving of my continued friendship.

I play this game because of that friendship. Shawn plays this game because of that friendship. If the friendship is over then we will no longer be playing. No blackmail, just facts.

That said, to honor those years of friendship am willing to discuss this further either here or via phone.

    Holy crap!
No one was denigrating you in chat for defending yourself. If any comment was made, 5 minutes later, everyone moved on and forgot all about it until you had to say something again. No one said you were a cheater or a liar or anything against your character. I don't want to speak for Keith but maybe he didn't see the need to defend you because you weren't being attacked. I think we all just want to MOVE ON. I am now being affected by this mess and am reluctant to bid or just wait because we don't know what your role is. Are you staying or are you going? I just want to get my auction on.

of course you are a friend
and if you look through the history here, you'll see that i never called you a liar or a cheat. so stop with the drama, please. i simply noted that you DO, however, share some personal responsibility for how it did play out - despite your protestations.

in any case, you cannot hold the league hostage any longer over what you are going to do.

if friendship is the key here and it's important to you, then there is really nothing to think about and you should just act accordingly. i'm not going to beg or grovel or frankly apologize about this stuff, and i'm not going to have the league held hostage any longer while we negotiate to your content about our level of friendship.

you have to decide now - are you in or out? you have until 2 pm and then as per your post we will assume you are out.

Jackie Thank you for making me take a second look
    Jackie,

Thanks for making take a second look at this. I did review the posts as you suggested. And you are correct. I was reading something into the discussion that was not there. Keith is lucky to have you on his side (and having his son).

    To Keith,

I am sorry I misread the board comments. That is on me. I am still not happy with your view as posted in "this is getting out of hand" but I know you have tightrope to walk here with many friends in the league and act as commish. Sorry if I added to your stress. The crash messed with me but it should now shake out.

    To Justin,

Sorry that I misread your comments. You were not denigrating me, you were defending your position. I apologize.

    To the League:

Sorry for adding to the screw up. It was unfair of me and I apologize to all.

    Keith,

Just read you post after post my response to Jackie.

Appreciate your comment in your headline.

I disagree with you on your comments in "this is getting out of hand" and I ask you to reread them in that light.

I consider you a friend as well.
