2012 Ragnarok Draft
so's we's was bantering about an idea the other night, and after checking with Gustafson to confirm that he had also proposed a similar idea a couple of years ago, i'm going to toss it out there for the league to chew on...
basically, the idea is that instead of the Ragnarok playoffs determining the direct draft slots for the following season, it will determine the SELECTION of draft slots for the following season.
with this approach, we still maintain the intensity of having playoff performance determine one's fortune in the following draft, but we augment it by allowing choice of slots. teams would actually be rewarded in the following season's draft, rather than pigeon holed into a slot that whose benefit may not reflect the previous year's final standings.
it should be a really fun and more meaningful way to determine the draft order.
for example, everyone would have a simple webform available via their team homepage. you'd select your order of preference, and then everyone's choices are processed in the order of the 2011 final standings. so the Koo would simply get their choice of slot. then the Gamblers favorite remaining slot would be rewarded. then the n00b gets their favorite slot of the ones still remaining, etc.
if we decided that we would want to do this, those webforms would probably get resolved on midnight on June 30. then we would still maintain our franchise deadline of midnight on July 31, giving everyone an entire month to strategize their keepers.

Seems like a neat little twist.

It's worth trying just to see if we like it, if not we go back to the way we've been doing it. |
