For the past few weeks I have been wallowing in a conundrum. How can I support a publicly financed stadium, when my bitterly frozen state is as broke as my snow shovel. This is what the occupy movement is all about. Government giving breaks to the wealthy and leaving the poor and middle class to make up the difference. If Wall Street, Minneapolis, or Chapel Hill were closer I would be occupying along side with Kent and the rest of them. Gov. Dayton decided not to call a special session because of lack or support by the legislature. No one supported expanding taxes and very few supported a state owned casino. Gamboling in Minnesota is currently exclusive to the Native American Tribes, and they have a very strong lobbying effort in St. Paul. Mr Dayton did however call hearing so they could get a leg up on the facts. "So my mind was filled with wonder, when the evening headlines read" (Richard Cory my favorite poem) That a small tribe in northern Minnesota the White Earth Band of Ojibawi was willing to finance the entire public portion if they could build a casino near the proposed site of the new stadium in Arden Hills. Wow! A $800 million donation, sure there are cost to gaming, but we are no strangers to those. It looks as if this is a no brainer, well we are dealing with politicians, they could still fuck this one up. More details of the proposal are here. http://minnesota.publicradio.org/collections/special/columns/polinaut/archive/2011/12/post_1.shtml?refid=0 |

Glad there's good news for Vikings fans

It would be a damn shame if the Vikings moved. Is there a sense that Jacksonville may move now that they've been sold? Is anyone following that team? |
