I got my mag this evening and the first article intrigued me. I expect more nay says than not but I'm throwing it out:
A Pre-Season Ragnarok Fantasy Football League
A new way to determine regular-season fantasy draft order. The way it works is that stats accumulate from Aug. 13 through Sept. 4 (stats from the Hall of Fame game do not count). Owners are allowed three roster moves, one each prior to Aug. 19, Aug 26, and Sept. 2 deadlines. The owner whose team racks up the most pre-season fantasy points gets the highest pick in the regular-season draft order, the owner with the second most points, picks second, and so on....
I thought this might be cool in a number of ways. One, we can actually use the cool site that Kieth has in mid summer, for the pre Draft. Everyone at home, drafting in the first week of August! Two, it EXTENDS the football season and makes shitty pre-season games so much more important and FUN to watch. Three, it shakes up our draft in a more arbitrary way, in a sense, but not slanted to success from last season, which is arguable. Your pick/slot for the pre-season draft is based on your position at the end of the previous season, so that's not thrown out with the bathwater. Further, I thought since we hold the Champion position so high, we let the Champion choose whichever slot he wants for the regular-draft regardless of the preseason results (hence, Champ doesn't really have to even participate, a perk, but certainly can). The other 11 owners (with the accumulated points of preseason season) would fall around the champion slot. I'm sure there are many other pros, and cons. Not to mention a smarter regular season draft, because in theory, we're looking at depth in a new way. Not that ours isn't.
What say you? I know we shook up divisions not too long ago, but this could be really good for us. Or not. Sounds like more football to me though...
