Victory Points
As I understand it, the victory point system awards a point to each team that wins their head-to-head match-up, and another point to each of the six highest scoring teams. The idea is to somehow compensate for the teams that consistently score well, but get screwed on their match-ups.
I am unsure how this all resolves as far as play-offs go, though. I would guess the three division winners would be in, and the three wild-card spots would go to the highest point totals. |

what it amounts to is essentially a "meta game" against everyone in the league each week. if your team scores in the top 50%, you get one victory point. it's a great system that is starting to be put in play for the top fantasy leagues in the country, as it still keeps the head to head element but also recognizes the virtual nature of the matchup and that the goal of the standings system is supposed to reflect the best teams. i've done retro scoring of it for past seasons in other leagues and it's only resulted in a couple of adjustments for which teams made the playoffs - and those adjustments were correct in putting the stronger teams into the playoffs. |

I'd like to see how victory points would've impacted the last few years of Ragnarok. Maybe i'll do that and post it if anyone but me thinks it would be useful. |

I never wrote "Shiver me timbers!" I JUST wrote "Do it." And in the thread it says "By the powers" instead of "Shiver me timbers!"...that's odd. We have a creeping superhero pirate ghost in the computer!!! |

Victory Points in action
If anyone is really interested in seeing victory points in action, just check out the standings in Midgard.
As of right now, my team (DC Defenestrators) is in the 6th playoff spot. The team is 3rd in overall scoring, but is only 3-5 in matchups. This past week, I beat the Defiance Wolverines to grab that playoff spot. His team is 10th in scoring, but is 6-2 in matchups. My team has earned 7 victory points (I've been in the top half of the league in scoring 7 out of 8 weeks this season), while his team has only earned 3 victory points.
Without the victory points the Wolverines would be in the 5th playoff spot (top wild card team), 2 games ahead of the top non-playoff team - and my team would be 2 games out of the last wild card spot. It's not hard to see how victory points can affect everything. |

I'm not really trying to push for them in this league. Just letting you see how they do affect things. |
