| for the 2008 season, it is proposed that in addition to the weekly 8pm Wednesday night free agency signing, we have another FA signing on Sunday mornings. for those who are bad at math, that means two signings per week. what say ye all? |

the genesis of the idea for two FA signings per week, with one on Wednesday and one on Sunday morning, is to account for the occasional scenarios where a team makes all the right and honorable moves to field a full team that week, but is stymied by cruel Fate (such as if a player gets hurt in practice after Wednesday) or relying on Shanahan or Belichick's Orwellian injury reports. in such situations, should we have a hardline stance or should we acknowledge honorable efforts and strive towards full arrays of starters each week?
however, there are probably some nuanced effects of having two FA signings each week. for example, teams may not bid very aggressively on Wednesdays, knowing that they have a second chance. or, teams may not initiate as many trades, as they know they can just bid again later in the week.
sooo, it is proposed that starting in 2008 we allow one Emergency Free Agent Signing Session per team, per season. we'd set up Sunday morning FA signing sessions for each week, but a team can only use a Sunday session once per season. if they did try to use a Sunday's FA session, they'd submit FA bids as normal.

| the current FA system is one of the great unique features of Ragnarok, in my opinion. If anything, why not move the single FA period later in the week? |

i agree that the FA system in Ragnarok totally rules, and i'd hate to see it change for the worse. my impression of a once-per-season Emergency signing is that it wouldn't negatively affect our overall system... if we did two a week with no limits, i think we'd see some undesired effects.
as far as doing it later in the week, that poses some difficulties in the second half of the NFL season when they start doing those wacky Thursday and Saturday games with regularity. also, if we do it too late in the week, it would narrow the window of opportunity to make post-FA trading moves.

i agree with Dynasty.....

| the system has worked well for years. I really don't see any benefit to the league by giving a team the opportunity to have a second chance after a failed bid. I've had to make a trade or go without someone as have many others. I like the idea of moving FA to Friday so that you have more injury news and if you get outbid there is still time for a trade. |
