Draft System
As one of the teams that seems to fail to make the play-offs every year, here is my take on the draft system.
I have drafted everywhere possible, from trading up to the second pick to the middle of the pack to the next-to-last spot. The ability to make deals on draft order insures that everyone has the possibility of moving up or down according to preference. I think that it all comes down to accurate projection of player performance, team management and luck. Draft position is a very small component of over-all success.
I came away from this year's draft feeling fairly happy about my 1st and 2nd round picks. Hasselbeck was a unanimous top-five QB, and Chris Brown was expected to surpass Eddie George's role as the Titan's workhorse. What happened? Both have under-performed. The NFL is unpredictable, and no re-arrangement of draft system is gonna change that.
I feel that the teams that succeed should be rewarded with higher draft position. That is part of what we all strive for. Winning should carry not only prestige, but a tangible benefit. The advantage of having a top draft pick is too slight to be unbalancing, yet considerable enough to be worth shooting for. In my opinion, we have a perfect draft system for our league. If it ain't broke, let's not try to fix it, eh? |
