Ragnarok 2020 is officially suspended

In terms of trying to summarize why this is, I don't even know where to begin. There are so many reasons as to why 2020 fantasy football is going to be, well, not fantasy football. Some of these reasons have to do with nuts and bolts items, some with strategic items, and some with the impact on having actual fun. In addition, there is tremendous uncertainty and also the likelihood of bad pandemic-based scenarios we cannot even anticipate today. Add in money and the gravitas of Ragnarok, and it's a recipe for shit stew.
And so it is will a heavy yet relieved heart that an official announcement is made: Ragnarok 2020 is suspended.
As a result:
1) 2020 Rookie Rule players will still be Rookie Rule players in 2021.
2) 2020 true NFL rookies this season will get one year of NFL experience and yet still keep their Rookie Rule eligibility after drafted in Ragnarok in 2021.
3) The 2021 Ragnarok Draft order will remain intact (Koo Dynasty gets first pick in 2021).
In addition, there will be a casual league that will be created on another platform. It's intention is just to provide a vehicle for us to have some fun without worrying about what happens in the NFL. It will either be for no dues or for something like $10-$20, which would go to beer prizes (two cases for the winner, 1 case for second place, a six pack for 3rd, and a 40oz for 4th) or something. This league will have a totally different scoring system and will NOT be part of the Ragnarok continuum. It will not be part of the written history of Ragnarok, but only spoken of via oral traditions. Everyone has said that they want to play in that league except for Kent, and as a result that team slot will be owned by Jacqueline. Joe will be the commissioner and we'll work out which platform as well as the scoring system we want to have. |

This is a crappy situation we are all in. To maintain the integrity of Ragnarok, there is no other choice. Asking Keith to put more time into trying to change the nuts and bolts to the platform to accommodate all the unknowns is not brotherly or realistic. Trying to keep our connection that we have during the fall because of football is important to me. Having a side league is a great opportunity to have that. perhaps a 2 QB league? I am thinking a small starting roster and small number of bench players with wide open FA and no trade deadline...prolly PPR, maybe tying DEF scoring to solo tackles and QB pressures/sacks? Start: 2QB, 1 RB, 1 WR, 1 TE, 1 FLEX, 1 DEF. 5 bench slots. No kickers. Scoring system should be gonzo.
Chime in if you want to participate so we can set a draft date. Labor day weekend? We can do a 12 round draft pretty quick, less than 3 hours easy. I hope everyone wants to play.

Appreciate Keith's communication and agree with the decision. The NFL will be a shit show and a fantasy football management nightmare. To further disappoint, I will gladly commish a league via one of the many free, poser, corporate sites. We will all appreciate Keith even more for all his hard work and time invested by the time I am done. No shits will be given in this gap year league, and I hope you all lose every week.
I'll send out a survey of some of the top sites. If anyone has a preference, please let me know. Perhaps we schedule a Zoom call social in the next few weeks to go over some of the rules and scoring setup.
I look forward to this being the worst Fantasy Football season of our lives. |

Just look at what's happening in baseball right now. Less than a week into the season, one of the teams just had 11 people (players and coaches) test positive. One third of the Marlin's traveling organization has tested positive. They've had to postpone their game with the Orioles tonight and the Phillies (whom the Marlins just finished playing) have postponed their game with the Yankees tonight. No announcements yet about anything beyond tonight's games.

Tuesday morning and I'm already seeing many individual players opting out on multiple teams, and some are actually decent fantasy options. And yeah, what Stu said about baseball. It's a shit show. Vikings have 31 players on reserve/COVID-19 list for quarantine. Grateful for a super Commish and a forward thinking league. And for staying poisitive throughout.
I'm in for the hockey zoom if we don't do a family hike/float. Sounds great.
I did a league with other theatre teachers last year on Sleeper, and it was a very user friendly platform. Nice graphics, data, and (I think) is flexible with rules and scoring. I didn't pay, and it was much better than ESPN Fantasy Football, IMO. But, I don't really have a dog in that fight. I've played there, NFL.com (good too), and CBS sports, so I have experience enough to navigate a fake trophy. I know Joe.commish has plenty of life points to lead the shit stew 2020.
Emergency Board meeting today at 5:00 in my school district. My prediction all summer (I hope) will come true and we will go all virtual. It's the safe thing to do right now. Here's hoping.

Also with the Vikings, their head trainer (and infection control officer) has tested positive.
As for what platform we use for the replacement league - I don't really care. I voted for ESPN, but that was mainly because I already have an account with them. |
