    some Lake Gaston options
Since Lake Gaston seems to be the inclination of most, let's find a place in that area? Unfortunately, last year's location is already booked for the weekend of our Draft! Yow!

Here is one place that Billy found:
    Bracey house 1

Everyone is encouraged to poke around the internet, find listings, and post them here for everyone to look at. Let's do this!

    That ones looks pretty cool.
Not a pool player but that is a nice option. Looks like a decent place, plenty of room.

    Lake Gaston place looks nice!
Good draft room, a place for cornhole, great views as always. Plus, maybe someone will burn themselves horribly in the fire pit! This place has my vote.

    An overview of the choices
I took a few minutes to review the choices Billy put up. Big props to Billy for presenting a nice array of options.

We have prices ranging from $426 per to $167 per. Sizes range from 5br to 3br. Only three places specifically mention WiFi. Two places feature swimming pools. Several have nice game rooms. Here's my breakdown:

    1. Tiki Bar place: $426 per. 4br. Awesome pool. This place looks amazing but no mention of WiFi. This is the most expensive one on the list. Might be out of some folks' price range, like mine!

    2. Summer Shade Inn: $324 per. 5br. Roomy, has WiFi. Very nice game room and cool deck over boathouse. Good value for the price.

    3. Holly Hills: $167 per. 5br. This looks like an amazing value. Lots of room, in-ground pool and game room. No mention of WiFi though. This one gets my vote!!

    4. Kerr Lake: $325 per. 3br. Seems kinda small for the price. Lots of neighbors nearby also. Doesn't look that great for the price. No mention of WiFi either.

    5. Bracey, S.VA.: $285 per. 5br. WiFi included. Not a bad option, but lacks amenities like pool or game room. Still, for the price it would definitely work.

    6. Bracey, VA. #1: $262 per. 5br. WiFi included. Roomy, has game room and fire pit. Looks like an ancient TV in great room. This is also a good value for the price. I'd take this over the other Bracey one above.

I hope this helps us in making a choice. Can't wait to see you rascals!

    I like the tiki too.
    www.homeaway.com/vacation-rental/p737148vb?uni_id=1285086

I can start saving my pennies now if we all like this. Historically, a little more extravagant for our taste. It seems the nicest bang for our buck. But I'm happy with the other #5 choice too. Those seem to be the two that have garnered the most buzz. Not sure if everyone is seeing these emails though. Pretty quiet from most of us.

Sorry, I can't front anything on my credit card. Got the cornhole though!

    Go Heels!!

    let's Tiki!!!
after looking at links until my eyes bled, i've come full circle back to that crazy Tiki House proposal. split 9 ways, it's really not that much more than the other venues which all have their own (slight) shortcomings.

also, how practical will it be to have a pool? holy moly, talk about an easy way to recharge one's batteries.

what say ye all? should we make it official?

    One potential reservation
The tiki is close to other houses. There is a link on the home away page to a drone fly over of the property and it is clear that there are houses close and trees blocking the view of the water. But, there is a review as well describing a "guy's weekend" and how great it was. Just FYI. I still vote #1(tiki) or # 5.

It is very close to the other houses
With no smoking allowed in the house, the other houses may be an issue.

There is no mention of Wifi in the ad. Also, remember that not everyone is staying 4 nights.

    Smoking
If the proximity to other houses isn't too much of an issue...I am ok with Tiki...though I'd like to see a breakdown of the real cost in light of what Stu pointed out, in that not all owners will be staying the full four nights. I have to be somewhat circumspect about finances right now.

proximity and smoking didn't alarm me
That music in the drone video is another story, however.

Anyways, I think that we would be far enough away and also have enough obstructions that it wouldn't be much different than the density we've experienced at other lake draft locations.

I did a little number crunching and while the final number may vary, I think it would be around $62.50 a night. That is based on the following assumptions and methodologies:

    * Only 9 owners will be paying
    - Dat will be in Bismarck ND after moving there at the beginning of September. Yes, ND.
    - If the MN boyz make it to the draft, their airfare is enough of a burden and they won't need to pay housing.

    * The methodology used was to figure out the number of human nights and divide the total cost by that number.

For "human nights," that means the cumulative number of people that are in the house each night. I went with the following assumptions for how many people stay X amount of nights:

    - 4 nights x 2 people = 8 human nights (me)
    - 3 nights x 6 people = 18 human nights
    - 2 nights x 1 person = 2 human nights

Total number would be 28 human nights. $1750 / 28 = $62.50 per night. This includes the cleaning fee.

If more people stay more nights, it becomes less per night. For example, if there are just two more human nights added to the mix (30 instead of 28) then the cost per person per night drops to $58.33.

    Plus Billy's Buy In...
Thanks for the break down Keith. Megabucks and human nights...Keith's dream world is underway. Put me down for 4 nights, plus Billy's buy in if Kent's playing. No way Kent plays without Billy's devotion to policing the game and losing his fucking mind.

    Sincerely,

    Joe

    math is even more better
i had Scott down for 2 human nights and Joe for 3. we're already +2 over my estimates, which drops the cost to $54 per human night.

i propose we make it official
if you can pull the trigger, Stu, go ahead and do so? and if you do make it official, it would be cool for everyone to send Stu some money to help offset the initial impact. i think it's going to be about $2250 up front, with a $500 refundable damage deposit coming back after we leave. Stu, if you can't be the trigger man this year let us know? if you can do it, i'll send you $100 now and another $100 in a couple of weeks.

Sorry, I was on vacation last week.
I got in touch with the tiki house owner last week. he and I have been slowly messaging each other the past few days. I asked a question about the internet service, just to make sure it could handle 6-7 devices and the video connection all going at the same time. He's having his provider (Century Link) run a test on the line.

Other than that, everything seems fine.
