Isn't snow wonderful! O.K., Who is the new owner and where is the draft this year? My 2 cents are for someone who isn't shallow, stupid or follows societal stereotypes under the guise of "Freedom". maybe the beach this year? mountains? wherever it is, we need a new person/persons to take the lead for planning and financial backing. What say you?

ya mon, it's time to secure the venue
we can either go back to the lake house this year or we can try to find another location. i'm amphibious. everyone should chime in with your opinion!

regardless of venue, it is time for each of us to set aside a minimum of $100 in preparation of sending it to whoever will be the facilitator this time around. that person will need the money in order to procure the location sometime no later than April. come May, most places are already booked solid for the year.

damn, how did it become March already?!

Obviously, I'll go wherever we choose to have the draft.
But we do need to make some kind of decision relatively soon.

Also, does anyone have any prospects for a new owner?

airbnb is a big channel this year
they are uberizing the rental market and everyone knows about them now. i did my first poking around on airbnb.com and found it pretty easy to use and with lots of listings everywhere. i was also looking at places north of 85/40, thinking maybe a Danville area retreat would be easier on Stu for a change.

no matter how much looking around on last year's homeaway and this year's airbnb, i'm surprised by a lack of really posh places in the middle of nowhere. i was looking for a killer house in a location that has no tourism, hoping we could land a whale in the $200+/night range. alas, i haven't found any yet. and so if we're stuck in the $300-$350 range then maybe the lake house is the way to go. at least we can have the 2015 Smoke Off competition at the lake house.

chime in everyone, let's get this locked in asap!

    one random option
    Mouth of Wilson area, $200/night

it doesn't have internets, but that may not be a deal breaker? if it has cell service, we may be able to just use cell phones as hotspots during the draft.

i like the fact that it is about half the cost of the Lake House. it doesn't have a smoker or a dirty green lake, but it's half price and the house looks awesome.

i'll continue to poke around, looking for a whale of a house in the $200 price range off of the beaten path. everyone else is certainly encouraged to look for possible venues, as well!

I do appreciate that you're looking at places close to DC
That doesn't need to be a main concern - I don't mind the drive. As long as we find a place that fits our needs, I'm willing to drive 7-8 hours to get there.

I've been looking at a few things, but so far nothing has jumped out at me yet.

    i'm LOVING the prices
it seems that we can find some sweet lodgings in the $900-$1400 range for all four nights, all things included. this is significantly less than what we've been paying during the past few years.

one concern that i do have is how do we go about verifying that our final selection is a legit rental? hopefully, that is somehow built-in to the servicing website and a vettable rental history. i've seen a lot of scamming lately, including in the rental and real estate markets.

anyways, that's probably just a small nuts and bolts detail that can be figured out when the time comes.

AND SO, LET'S GET IT MOVING ALONG. everyone, please click on the supplied links and voice your opinion. ideally, maybe even nominate your two favorite places from the list, and then we can find some cross-matched winner. also, everyone is encouraged to look around and nominate additional locations.

within the next 3 weeks, 4 tops, we'll need to get this all sorted out and a deposit in place.

The last link 305681, and the Farm Retreat in Burlington look the most interesting! Kelly and I are closing on a new home (in Boone) in two weeks ( WOO-HOO! but not ideal for the draft), which is why I've been MIA a bit. But not necesarily in the space to throw down a chunk of change on the card (even though it all comes back). Beach would be fun! I see lots of seafood in our future!

The water would still be nice too!

After Joe, I'm all tapped out on awesome owners.

ok, here is a summary of all proposed locations so far

after putting all of these into a list for some side by side comparisons, i'm going to vote for the Lake Gaston location. here is my way of thinking:

    * clearly, our old Lake House from the past two years is so much more expensive than the competitors. scratch that one off the list. bye bye smoker.

    * the new Lake Norman house ("Lake Norman 5BR") looks cool even though the dining area is a little small. it has a pool table, no ping pong. but the big debit against this house is that it has 5BR but there are no bunk beds. and while we know that Sean and Jeremy would be troopers and volunteer to take the smallest bed together, that still leaves the rest of us to all bed together as well.

    * the two ocean view places looked great and one was really inexpensive, but both of those locations are duplexes. it'd be a little weird having a group of people on the other side of a wall, plus the overall square footage won't be as much. i'm moving on.

    * the Farm Retreat house looks really nice, but it doesn't have any games like ping pong or pool or shuffleboard. it looks to be in middle of a field with some dirty pond. it would support croquet, however. this one is doable, but it looks a wee bit dull.

    * the Lake Gaston house is a really big place, has a large dining area for food and poker, looks to have a good room for drafting, has bunks so everyone can have their own bed, and it has a ping pong table along with a lake. it could possibly even support croquet.

price-wise, the two finalists are close enough where price isn't a factor ($1306 vs $1405). and therefore i'm voting for Lake Gaston. BAM!

everyone else, weigh in please! also, do we have any volunteer to handle the bank and reservation? if no one feels inspired to do it, i'll take care of it and be the front man.

so please weigh in, and please set aside $100 to send as soon as we have an official decision. thanks dudes!

    Hold my Cock and Pulleit
    Gentlemen,

Nice work on the house search. I am down with the Gaston house, let me know next steps. As for the rest of the nonsense, it has all been summed up well by the other owners. New ownership effort was 50% effective, not bad, I would happily take 50% more hair. Perhaps I have been in this league too long, or I trust you knuckleheads more than other leagues trust their owners, but I could not image having veto rights to trades.

    Yours truly,

    FMB

I can front money again if necessary. It looks like payment can be split into 2 installments, so if anyone else wants to help out with that we'd have plenty of options on how to take care of the payment.

    last call for inputs!
unless someone speaks up in the next day or two, let's go ahead and lock in the Lake Gaston place? all of the people who drive the farthest are in support of that location, and so the votes that really matter have already chimed in and are on board. if no one speaks up to the contrary, we'll assume the location is agreeable to everyone.

Stu, if you want to front it again this year, that would be awesome. i can drop a check in the mail today for a big chunk of change to help offset the upfront costs, and then we can figure out equalization later.

also, I'm assuming we're getting the reservation for four nights: Thurs, Fri, Sat, and Sun. it's up to everyone as to which days they stay, and we'll prorate the per-person costs accordingly.

everyone, please go ahead and mail Stu your $100 at your first opportunity. that way, he won't have a big burden up front and you'll also be mostly paid up once September rolls around.

thanks, all! Draft Weekend will be here before you know it!

    The Draft and Gay-Athalon!
I really liked the Lake House we had the last two years, but if Lake Gaston is that much less expensive then by all means let's do it. I'll have the $100 tomorrow, just need to know where to send it.

One reason I liked the old place was the games. I am proposing the first Annual Gay-Athalon, where we divide into teams of two and compete in a series of events for a cash prize. I was originally thinking of shuffle puck, ping pong and cornhole as the events, but we could easily do bocci ball, croquet and cornhole as the events. Everyone puts in $5 or $10 dollars, and winner takes all. Each team scores points based on how they finish in each event, and then the winning team squares off for an epic head to head match of cornhole for all the juicy loot!

I can't wait to see you guys. And FUCK DOOK!!!

    tapped out
I went back to the few guys in my world that I remotely thought could hang, and it's too intensive for most, too involved (most do the cute ESPN leagues and we all know how little time you need to be those leagues). Though dysfunctional as we may be, we are organized and extreme. There is a brotherhood and as each year passes, it tightens our Ragnarok bond. It will be finding that bold personality that doesn't feel intimidated to hang and still draft competitively with us. I got nobody.

I'm sure it's been considered, but is there anyone else in the other Ragnarok leagues that are worthy of powering up? That at least knows the legend of Ragnarok Football? Or perhaps a fine owner in the past that left (not for insubordination, but because of life circumstances), but might be able to reclaim ownership?

Thinking out loud to the group...
