    iiiiiiit's TIME!
time to pick where this year's draft will be held. and does anyone want to run point on procuring the reservation?

last year, we didn't start looking for a reservation until April and things were booked up everywhere. let's get a jump on it for 2014, eh?

    if airfare is being considered...
... what about doing it in Minnesota? that way, the MN Boyz would get a turn having it in their neck of the woods. the actual rental should be cheap, too, considering the economic wasteland that is northern MN.

if flying is off the table, do we want to go to either of the last places we've stayed or do we want to pick a whole new area to focus on?

as for hotel or house, i lean towards a house rental. more comfy, more options and amenities, less cost, and more drugsfreedom.

it's time to get crackin', folks! what's everyone's thoughts?

Wouldn't it be cool to have the draft in Thailand?
Dirt cheap hotels, booze, and hookers. Of course, the flight would cost $2,000... But if we're considering airfare...

Seriously I'm down for anything. My only concern with Minnesota: do they have the internet there? Running water? Electricity? An NFL franchise?

    As it stands now..
i have priced Vegas, myrtle beach, Charlotte, Minn. ( with maybe the possibility of going to a game)... Thursday to Sunday, Just for transportation and shelter is as high as 92.00 pp/night and as low as 38pp/ night. Thinking that a house in NC would be most bang for buck.. I know some of us can afford more than others, but I think that making everyone comfortable with what they are spending will only make the weekend better. If everyone would like to email me what they think they would want to spend, I could get a little more specific with our options.

Would folks be able to shift a day and depart Monday for a full day if Sunday football and bullshitting?

I am fine with whatever gets the best turnout. I did like the body of water near by and of course the Minnesotans made the weekend better.

i love the sunday night/monday departure idea
i'm down with that, and would actually kind of vote for it. i think it'd be a ton of fun on sunday to watch my dominant team go 0-1, not to mention having an easier recovery day after the previous couple of days of drinking. we could make the reservation for Thurs-Sun or Fri-Sun nights instead of Thurs-Sat, depending on interest.

    Lake house
Gents, I have contacted the owner of the house we were in last year and it is available Sept 5-Sept 8.(friday to monday) with the cleaning fee included, and 10 of us attending, it is $129 each for the weekend. So, the questions are;1. Do we want to stay at the same place, B. is that an affordable price for everyone and III. is Friday to Monday the time we want to do it this year or should we stay with the traditional Thurs-Sunday. Sound off! My feelings are.. Either times are good but would like to try the Friday-Monday thing. $129 is ok, but am flexable.

down with the Lake House again
Friday - Sunday nights (Monday departure) sounds like a fun thing to try. Not sure on how that may affect a two-day Draft, though.

Here's a totally flippin' crazy idea that may be too crazy: One other option may be to do Thursday - Sunday nights. That way, folks could show up on either Thursday or Friday and stay to either Sunday or Monday, based on their own abilities and restrictions. And anyone who COULD pull off a 4-Nighter could have an amazingly decompressing time.

    $129 is within my budget
And I would be able to go higher than that if necessary.

Obviously I would prefer Thursday - Saturday nights if the choice comes down to either that or Fri-Sun, but I agree that the final decision should be based on what will have the best turnout.

I'd be very happy going back to the lake house
I thought last year's draft was damn near perfect, and would be very happy to replicate it. The Thurs-Mon idea is intriguing, and while I'd almost certainly be unable to attend for all 4 nights, I like the idea of giving people the option. If the long, long weekend is not an option, I'd vote for Thursday-Sunday over Friday-Monday, but neither is anywhere close to a dealbreaker for me, so I'll defer to others.

sounds like we're formulating a plan
hopefully we can nail down the particulars in the next few days and then make a reservation asap; last year, by April nearly all possible venues were already booked.

i'm super intrigued by the Thursday - Sunday nights idea. it would make it where in all likelihood the Thursday night and the Sunday night would be a little more $/person/night for those two nights, and then the Fri and Sat nights would be split 10 ways. i have to clear it with the Big Boss, but i sure would love to do a 4-nighter myself. holy shit that would be fucking amazing.

anyways, as we start to formulate the master plan let's also start thinking about financing this thing. last year when i made the reservation for the lake house, they required everything up front and in cash - no credit card was accepted. and so i had to come up with $1700.00 cash within a week or two and it was pretty tough. this year, it'd be a big help to pool some money up front. it sounds like Billy will be the point person with the house owners, and assuming that is the case then anyone who can should probably try to send him some money right away. at a minimum i'll send a rough estimate on my per-person cost for the trip, and i could probably come up with a little extra for a part of the deposit. but if most/all owners could send Billy at least a little cashola/checkola, that would do wonders for alleviating the financial pressure that it takes to procure the reservation.

    $129 is fine.
I can swing that, not sure I can miss Friday and Monday. But there is a lot of time to save my pennies, especially since I've already left my dues for next year in the "bank." I'll do whatever, like Stu, whether I can do Sunday night of not. Can send Billy some $$ too. Just let me know when/where.

    Awesome.
The lake house was terrific. Nearby golf, some kayaking, a ping pong table where I can beat Kent 21-3... What's not to like?

Thanks to everyone (especially Billy and Keith) for doing the legwork. I've always wanted to find a way to watch the Sunday games with everyone so I love the Sunday night idea. Like others, I'm not sure I could stay all four nights, but if given the choice I would probably lean toward Fri-Sun nights over Thu-Sat.

what to do, what to do
alright, gents, it's probably time to start making some decisions and getting this locked in before we end up having to hold the 2014 Ragnarok Draft at the Holiday Inn in Burlington.

basically, it sounds like the only outstanding decision is where to place the bookends. do we rent a) Thursday - Saturday nights, b) Friday - Sunday nights, or c) Thursday - Sunday nights?

my guess is that some guys can do Thursday but not Sunday night, while others may be able to do Sunday night but not Thursday night. and heck, maybe an owner or two can even pull off a 4-nighter. it is really hard to try to figure that out five months ahead of time, though.

so here is a crazy idea, and please feel free to point out if it is just way too crazy or ambitious:
    i) how about if we officially rent it for four nights, from Thursday night through Sunday night?
ii) for Friday and Saturday night, all 10 owners will be there and so the cost for those nights will be split 10 ways.
iii) for Thursday and Sunday nights, we don't know how many owners will be able to come to either night. it sounds like the new Sunday option may be popular, but there are still some owners who can't do that night and so for them a Thursday night would be awesome. and so how about if we just equally divide the cost of the Thursday and Sunday nights among those owners staying those nights, regardless of which night it is?

for example, let's say 5 owners make it to the house on Thursday and 7 owners stay to watch football on Sunday and thus stay Sunday night. in this example, there would be a total of 12 owner slots for those two nights, so the cost for each night for just those people would be:

([Thursday night cost] + [Sunday night cost]) / 12

with this shared approach, it will be an even price for everyone regardless of if there were more owners on one night vs the other night.

since this is the biggest decision to make, please chime in with any thoughts or preferences. tick tock, bitches!

    let's light this candle
ok, so the Thurs-Mon doesn't seem preposterous and it could end up being the greatest thing since sliced bread. let's go ahead and do this!

once the point man is determined, we should all send him some money as soon as possible. you don't have to come up with the whole enchilada, and at this time you don't even know if you want a bean or cheese enchilada, so even just a $50-$150 amount would be helpful. for those who want to put in more in order to help with the deposit, feel free to contribute more money up front and then you'll get your deposit donation returned a couple of weeks after the Draft.

any little bit will help. basically, in order to procure the reservation we have to come up with the entire cost (including the deposit and cleaning fee) in cash and then send a check to the owner. they don't do credit cards and they don't do an installment approach. last year, this was a bit of a surprise to me and i had to personally come up with $1,700.00 in cash on short notice. that kind of sucked. and so in 2014 let's all try to throw money in the kitty up front?

next up: who is going to be the person of contact? Billy, are you game? Or would you like for someone else to do it?

I would feel better if we heard from everyone though. I emailed linda ( agent) to inform her that we would like the house from thurs to mon, and also to see what form of payment she accepts. The house website says that they accept CC. If that is true, then I can front the 2 grand. If she needs cash, then i cant do that. I could pay whoever fronts the cash 1/2 now and 1/2 by end of may. That is just my cash flow situation. I will be attending fri-mon.

while Billy checks to see what the requirements are for a reservation, everyone should get ready for the money blast. i'm ready to put $300+ into the pot and will drop it in the mail as soon as we know the final details.

every little bit will help, and you have to pay now or pay later and so you may as well at least pay a little now. even if you can only send $50, that will help. if you can send $100+ that will get you a coffee mug. $200 or more and you'll receive a nice tote bag. anything beyond the core cost will be put to good use and be applied to the deposit; any contributions to the deposit will be returned to you within two weeks after the Draft.

so put that money aside, gents, and be ready to send it at a moment's notice. let's get this!

Fellas, here is where we are at...... Lady does not take CC as payment, only checks. I do not have $2000 in extra cash that I won't miss until September so we have three choices. 1. look for an another awesome house that accepts CC as payment which I will gladly front until Sept. 2.Have a money guy step up and front the cost of the house. I will still be the contact person and tack care of any details that need be taken care of. 3.EVERYONE that is going to be there send me payment for their time there ASAP. She is holding the weekend for us, but I am not sure for how long. I would not send her any money until I had EVERYONE'S payment for the time they will be there. If we go with option 3, I will do a money break down for us in the next post. Prolly around $50 a night with cleaning fee included. if one of you is going to generously step up, email me directly.
