Here is the response to my email about the lake house:Dear William ,
Thank you so much for your inquiry of our lake home. It is currently available for the dates you have specified, Sept 5-8, 2013.
The nightly rate is $350 with a cleaning fee of $175 and a refundable security deposit of $500. This is a non-smoking and no pets home.
There is a gas grill out on the deck, and the water is usually warm enough for a September swim if the weather stays warm
Thank you again for your interest in our home. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Not sure how this compares to the mountain house. one thing about this particular house is that there are other houses near by, so not sure how loud we could be outside at night. This house is pretty sweet though. I will do what ever. can not watch the NFL draft, working at Bowbarr that night. |

like Billy asked, did one of use already "reserve" it, or is it really off the table?
if it is indeed out of reach, then i suppose the Lake House is obviously the leading candidate. do we want to do any more looking or deliberating, or move forward and get that lake location locked in? |

Seriously, just want to see which house. I'm sure it's fine--more than fine, actually. And since the mountain house appears to be off the table, I think we just lock down the lake house.
In the meantime: good luck to the Bills and Jets fighting over who can draft Ryan Nassib way too early! |

Billy had a very recent correspondence with the owner/manager and that seemed to imply that the house is indeed rentable? |

i'm going to attempt to pull the trigger today
|
|

and get the Black Mountain cabin. i looked at 100+ places yesterday. most of the better ones are either already booked or not really as good as we want. this place has it all (including the ping pong table), and looks to be alot like last year's location. and not only does it look to be a little better than the Lake Norman candidate, it's also $70 cheaper each night.
with places filling up and nothing better being found, i'm going to attempt to nail it down. i've both emailed and called the owner/manager, so hopefully we'll know today either way. i'll post an update here on the forum as soon as i know anything. |

here is the response i got two days after inquiring on the Black Mountain location:
"Thank you for your inquiry of Highrock Haven in Black Mountain. I tentatively have the home booked for that same week with another family. I will let you know if they decide not to rent the home. They have until next Thursday to pay their deposit."
pretty damn irritating, i gotta say. in my opinion, whoever shows up with the money first should get the reservation - otherwise, what the hell? plus, if it's unavailable then they need to make it unavailable on the website instead of wasting our time with namby pamby unprofessional bullshit.
basically, we need to keep looking.
i'm surprised at how difficult this is turning out to be. it does underscore the need to get a place locked in asap, too. |
