15 year summary of draft position and placing
|

I heard Keith talking about picking draft positions this year instead of having them determined by how you placed at the end of the season (I think that is right). So, I was bored and curious one day and made a chart showing the draft positions and where those teams placed at the end of the season for the last 15 years of your league. The results were interesting!
Here is the link to the chart. I hope it is easy to understand.

still may do so, if we go with the pick-yer-slots approach and nobody snipes that slot. i'll buck the trend thanks to AP carrying the vikes this year. suck on some AP, bitches! |

What a great table! I'm not sure it tells us a whole lot, other than teams that finish higher in one year are slightly more likely to finish higher the next year. But is that a function of the draft slot or the owner? Probably more the owner than anything - after all, we know they were good enough to finish higher in year 1. But it's impossible to know if draft slot is correlation or causation.
However, the one thing that suggests to me that this is an owner issue more than a draft spot issue is the 12th spot. If I'm remembering correctly, we've lost 3 or 4 owners that finished in 12th place. I know I replaced one, Sean replaced one, I think Stu replaced one, and there look to be others. (A quick look through the league history shows the Pumas, Kickers, Bashers, and Monks all bailed after 12th place finishes. And I may have missed one.) My bet is that one reason the #12 spot has had so much success the year after is because ownership changed hands. |
