| Pleas etell me this isn't some gay-ass victory point crap. We would not have joined a league with artificial win bullshit. We didn't have this inane crap when I last played in Midgard. Is everyone else on board with this shit? |

Holy Smokes Alicia,
When we met earlier this month I never heard you say a fowl word. This last month living with Kent has certainly expanded your vocabulary. If I had a bar of soap and a 2000 mile long sponge on a stick I'd wash your mouth out.
However things have changed in the last couple of years and VP's have been installed. Like I said on the Ragnarok post I don't like the victory point system as it currently stands, but I can see the merit in having the best teams in the playoffs. So maybe a modified victory point system for this league like I proposed on the other leagues post may be better. |

I brought up the following a few weeks ago as a topic of discussion for a different league. It was nixed quickly!
Something to think about for next year....…If there is a next year.
Sunday afternoon after watching Adrian Peterson stiff-arm the shit out of some pathetic DB from the Brown's. Eric, Keith and I had a conversation about victory points and the angels and demons of them. Keith made the point that he had the second highest score in the league and was yet probably going to lose the weekly match up. (This was true as of 3:30 pm Sunday) He also brought up the point that in past years, the highest point earner for the season did not always make it to the post season. Well, boo hoo hoo. I hate Fuckin' victory points. They have no true nature in football, its about winning and losing.
He did make some valid points though about being consistently very good and still being beaten out by luck.
We discussed different solutions and finally I came up with this one though at the time I don't think I communicated it very well at the time.
My point was;
1) Do not change the match ups. 1 head to head W, is just that 1 W.
2) The top 4 scorers of the week get a M for moral victory.
3) This means that you have to be in the top 3rd of scoring to earn an M. (Quality) The reason for the moral victories in stead of just giving it to highest point total at the end of the season, lessons the effect of a blowout games by a player.
4) Come play off time five teams are chosen for the play-offs based on wins and losses.
The sixth slot is given to the team with the most Moral victories that is not already in the play-offs. As long as the team achieves 7 M's. This way they have to be in the top 3rd at least half of the time. (Consistency)
5) For a team to get 7 M's and have a non play-off record would be hard to achieve but could happen. If no team achieves these benchmarks then no team makes the play-offs via the moral victory route, and the final slot is given to the next team in line with wins and loses.
This formula helps insure that the teams that make the post season are the best teams in the league and deserve to be there because of the quality and consistency of their players.
If you say that moral victories are just a veiled attempt at passing victory points into this league, then I will never bring it up again. |

Here is my Idea (Keith gets alot of these working for me on SportSims.net)
|

|
|
Let the head to head Wins and Loss record choose the Division records.
Let the VPs choose the Wild Card teams.
Simple straight forward and gets the best teams into the playoffs. |

| for your approach, Vixens. btw, it's also worth mentioning that since "you" last played in Midgard we didn't have a standardized scoring system nor did we have PPR nor did we have a slow auction. it's also worth noting that "you" were always against PPR until you actually played with it, and now "you" are supporting that approach for Ragnarok. whatever... you want some cheese with your whine? |

There's no mention of VP's in the rules for this league that I can see. I was informed of the changes per PPR and the slow auction, which I think are fine. What I don't agree with is totally changing how the play-offs are handled without any input from the owners.
A win is a win and a loss is a loss. Everything else is just overthinking the system, IMHO. |

Firstly, let me say that none of the posts of last night were made by Alicia. She is not pleased that I used her account when I made then. I sometimes forget which one I am logged in under.
Secondly, I may have been a teensy bit drunk. I saw the VP thing and went off. I looked up the rules and saw no mention of VPs. I logged in for 2008 and there were no VPs listed, even though a column for them exists. I know we didn't have them in 2007, the last year I played in Midgard.
I figured if such a radical change had been implemented that I would have been informed when the other changes such as PPR and slow auction were discussed. I was wrong. I apologize if I have offended Keith or David or anyone else. |

Being new to the league, I just want to verify that I know exactly what is going on with the VPs. When I look at the standings, it goes overall, division, then a column for "VP". The VP column is the ultimate/first deciding factor, correct? Therefore, whoever has the highest number in that column (regardless of actual record) at the end of the regular season is the winning team for that divison?
So theoretically, a team can finish at 10-3, but can still finish in 2nd place to a 9-4 team if that 9-3 team has more VPs...correct? |

yup, VP is the determining measurement
|

it reflects W-L as well as output on a per-week basis. it slightly reduces the Lucky Fucker effect.
oh, FA is each Wednesday at 8pm and each Sunday at 10am.
