Two quick questions . . .

1) Is the championship game over a two week period? If so, are we allowed any changes to our lineup, or is that set once the games start?
2) I was reading in the rules that ties in the playoffs are resolved by "bench scoring". Is that the case, or do we resolve ties the same way we do during the regular season - total defensive points?

In regards to tie-breakers in the playoffs, I think the language is just a bit ambiguous in the rules page, and that the *first* level of tie-breaker remains the defensive starters. I think that when we sat down and worked out rules during the creation of Aces High, we were trying to come up with another level of tie-breaker just in case even the defensive starters points were equal.
I'd like to reopen a discussion on this rule in the offseason, as I strongly believe that bench points are by far the worst way to break a tie. At first it may seem reasonable, but the substantial problem with that is that it penalizes teams who build valid roster depth by taking real life backups. These "stacks" won't be scoring any points, even though the team has acquired viable depth as insurance vs. injuries.
Rather, it may be better to apply what Ragnarok has done in 2004, and have the Head Coach be the next level of tie-breaker. Let's come up with the "third" level of tie-breaker in the case where both Coaches tie, and we should be good to go. |
