Welcome Dennis!
Thanks for joining our illustrious league. If you are up for it, we will begin the auction tonight at midnight eastern time? But if you'd like to wait an extra day to get your ducks in a row before we start the auction, that'd be fine as well.
Take a look at the Rules Book link on the Aurora league homepage, and you'll see more details about our slow auction, free agency system, rosters, and the like.
If you have any questions, just let us know. Welcome! |

Thank you for the warm welcome. My only experience playing fantasy football so far has been in a casual friends league and I suspect I'll get trampled my first year in this league, but I'm looking forward to competing. The league in general and the auction in particular seem like a lot of fun. I do enjoy trading, so feel free to send me trade offers or ideas anytime. If it's OK, I would like to get started with the auction tomorrow at midnight eastern time to give me a day to check out the league site, get acclimated with the rules, and do some preparation.
Thanks again for having me!

cool beans. we'll start the auction at 12:00am eastern time, Friday 8/21
as you'll see when looking over the rules, with the slow auction there isn't any time crunch. so even though we start at 12:00am, you will have all day Friday (until 11:59pm) to nominate a player for Day 1. and you can bid on players any time that's convenient for you. |

we can start tonight at 12 am ESTafter all

I just had a chance to quickly read the Rule Book and Scoring. (Thank goodness for lunch breaks.) It looks like the league is getting off to a late start this year, and I feel comfortable enough so that we can start the auction at midnight tonight. I was under the impression that I would have to be ready with a nomination by midnight tonight, but, as Keith pointed out, I'll have all day tomorrow to make my nomination, which shouldn't be a problem. I had some quick initial questions:
1. We start 2 wide receivers, correct? There was a mention of starting 3 WRs in the "Errata" section of the Rule Book, but "Errata" means "error" so I'm assuming we start 2 as stated elsewhere in the Rules and Scoring section. I understand you can also start a third WR in the Flex position.
2. How is the contribution of the Head Coach determined? It looks like the function of the Head Coach is to break ties during the weekly match ups.
3. I understand money not used in the auction can be used to bid on free agents during the season. I know it's a question of strategy, but do most teams reserve some money for this purpose, or do most teams spend all (or most) of their money at the auction?
Thanks! |

I'll help answer your questions:
1. You are correct, we start 2 WR (and you start 3 if you choose a WR as your FLEX).
2. The Head Coach scores 1 point toward your weekly score if his team wins regardless. In the event of a tie, the only tiebreaker is that position. Thus, if one team's Head Coach gets a win and the other does not, then the winning Head Coach's team gets the W for the week. If each Head Coach does the same thing (win or lose), then it is just a tie between the 2 teams (no other tiebreakers). [I'm almost positive this is how it works, but if I wrong, please correct me, Keith.]
3. I honestly don't know exactly what others do, but I don't purposely reserve any extra money during the auction process personally. Everyone will get whatever is left over + 100...so I am fine starting with 100 (if I have some left over, though, that is just bonus). That being said, I will also say that I am pretty sure every year there is an injury that happens after our draft but before the first auction...or a big injury in week 1 or 2, where there is a very coveted FA to be had. These guys typically go at a high price tag...so the ones with more money obviously have a strategic advantage. Another strategy is to just suck and you will get 10 CPs added each week that you lose ;-)
Anyone else want to give away their strategy?? ;-) |

Personally I try to spend all of my money because I'm min maxing the entire auction. Since the free agency is eBay style, you tend to not spend all of your reserves immediately. That doesn't mean it couldn't happen, I just wouldn't plan on saving any monies from the auction for that scenario. Just my 2 cents. |

Roster Size Question
Thanks to all of those who helped answer my initial questions - much appreciated. I have another question. It looks like there was a discussion thread earlier this year (under Rules Proposal 6.1) that roster sizes will now be 18 players. However, in the Rule Book (under "The Basics'), it says rosters will be comprised of 19 players. I'm assuming that the roster size is 18 rather than 19, but just wanted to make sure. |

Looks like if you add up the position minimum requirements you get 18 players which would mean the position max is not applicable? Or is my math wrong. |

Help!
I saw that we had a minimum of 2 DEF this morning, so I nominated 2 DEF. I do not want 2 DEF if I don't have to have 2 DEF. Can I please get my 2nd one that was nominated (Chiefs) off the board? |
